Yea, refinement was a few years in Watson's making lol

Machine: Watson is a Linux system powered by 10 racks of IBM Power 750 servers with 2,880 processor cores. It is capable of operating at 80 teraflops, or 80 trillion floating point operations per second.

Man: The computing specs of the human brain involve some guesswork, but many estimates, based on the estimated number of neurons and synapses in the brain, put the processing power at about 100 million MIPS, or 100 million million instructions per second. In floating-point terms, estimates have made it 100 petaflops (100 quadrillion flops). Of course, since the brain also is occupied with running the functions of the human body, how many of those flops are focused on the question at hand at any given time is a mystery.

it could just be me, but it seemed like watson went on a rampage for the first half of round one, then they went to commercial and sort of said "oops, we better tone him down a bit to make this more entertaining". during break it was like they slid waston's performance down to 80%, it started ringing in slower and getting a bunch wrong..

i wonder if watson rings in at the same interval every time, or if it rings in once it has finished computing the response. Or is that computation always so fast that it could ring in immediately every time anyway..

Yeah, if ken jennings had had time to ring in, he would have tied watson or better

You could clearly see he had many of the answers and just couldnt hit the buzzer fast enough

once watson has done the computation of the most likely answers, it gets narrowed down to a "top 3" and there is a threshold bar, any answer that passes that threshold gets the go ahead from watson to himself, and rings in.. yea he computes fast, but didnt they say our brains are faster ? watson doesnt feel stress or pressure, nor does he have a nagging wife to cloud his noodle

If IBM didn't spend money on shit like this those I7's could be a third of the price.

                            hah! true true
but i wanna see true AI, they fed all this info into watson thru wikipedia imdb, and so on...
i wanna see a computer that teaches itself to seek out the info, and learn from scratch...
eg: a robot that teaches itself to play guitar, like a person that did...
that might be a double edged sword tho, repercussions anyone ? skynet ? lol
