Hehe, DirectQ is faster than fast. MH knows the renderer for both Direct3D and OpenGL to a consummate level.

The Quake community is very fortunate to have such a powerful and experienced engine coder doing very deep and thought provoking experiments.

He has "gifted" technology out of the blue on several occasions to use in ProQuake and Engine X, including a few that I have not had the chance to assimilate.

Yea, I know. I'm doing as much realworld usage of DirectQ possible, and making notes when I find something I can suggest.

so far two thumbs up though I never thought I would see a Quake client doing 3,000 FPS at any given time. I've been trying to see about 4,000 FPS!!!! I just dont know if im hitting a hardware wall, and found my maximum output.

I like tinkering with my Quake more and more now days.

Im experimenting with it too, so far its pretty nice. One question , how do you let it use the keypad keys as binds? Ir is it not allowed?

i cant get it to show me fps... i use show_fps and it sits at 72... i change cl_maxfps to anything and it doesnt change it. So i just did a timedemo demo2.
          1189fps at 2560X1600

Would you have "Wait for Vertical Refresh" or similar named option enabled on your graphics card? That will limit your FPS regardless of having cl_maxfps set higher.

              show_fps 1

in options, set Vsync to ON. Apply changes
re-set vsync to OFF. Apply changes again!

now, should be getting higher than 72 FPS.

I think the version you're using might have an FPS lock in single player games to prevent physics from going wacky. I've a more robust general fix in the works for this, and the next one won't have an FPS lock (and should be faster too).

The new input code I have should make it easier to enable keypad binds by the way. But there are a lot of questions about how this interacts with the numlock key that I need answered before I'd proceed.

3000 FPS is nice, heh. I've never seen it go above 2600 or so myself. A lot of people might ask "what do you need this kind of insane performance for?" but it's all headroom for when things get busy.

I wasn't watching a demo be played. I was in-server at RAGE. Thats whats happening I believe

MH said that if the client is doing ANYTHING single player (autoplayback of a demo, when you load DirectQ) , the frames are capped at 72.

This is my understanding, that when the client automatically starts playing demo1 , it ignores prior FPS settings and reverts to 72.

Demo playback should run at full speed; it's only when you're actually in a SP game that it locks.

But like I said, this will all become irrelevant when the next one is released (which should be in a few days time).

I just figured thats why it reverted back to 72 everytime loading, but yea I like how you said they are irrelevant issue's , moving onward to the next release!!

1 question for MH is it possible to change the path for ss / demos. its writing the path with a / \ and i am unable to record demo's or screenshots w/ directq. i love the engine and this is the only problem i have w/ it. Glad to see Mindz on the dark side now as well.

Hmmm; I had that ages ago but I seem to have removed it some versions back. I was probably paranoid about people using invalid characters in the directory name (or mods using stuffcmd as an exploit to gain access to parts of your disk outside of your Quake folder). OK, adding to the to-do list.

I saw 4900ish FPS for very brief bursts. I'll mad scientist some settings and check back in later. Gonna go kick the wifes butt in quake now!
