Wow, this first run doesn't meet my expectations. I'll be trying again tomorrow ,find some tutorial on the making of a lighsaber in photoshop ..... for now, here is attempt number 1 !!

i think it looks alright, all you have to do is to cut out and copy over whee the hands should cover the handle (unless he's using the force)

What you have it great as is, just take a eraser to the handle to have all parts which would be covered by the hand and done. You could also add some blurring to the saber itself as a whole so it matches the quality of the other parts (as the image itself is very blurry)
