Does any one know where I can get images of all the standard maps in quake?

Yes, they do exist.

Our Qrack coder/author R00k made them.
Please look into his pack "qrack2011full.zip":
In folder:
qrack\textures\levelshots

Actually, I only made a few. I got the rest from (gfx.quakeworld.nu/browse/other/levelshots).

Originally I was trying to make the effect like halflife2. Where it had a "fixed" camera angle at the spawnpoint. Taking a screenshot of this point with default settings, I then used a blur filter. This way when one loads the game and is presented with the levelshot, its out of focus and as the levelshot fades away it give the illusion of coming into focus as the game starts
