  • Quake Sound Resampling Project

    Official site: http://www.stay.dsl.pipex.com/qsrp.htm

Download: High Def Sounds 16.3 MB

    .RAR format, requires WinRAR

Follow instructions in the text file.

It is my understanding that you have to be using JoeQuake or QRack to really take advantage of these sounds. Must add -44khz to the command line when starting.

(QW clients EZQuake and FuhQuake can also use these sounds, of course, and you add +set s_khz 44 to the command line.

I don't know if you need to do anything special in DarkPlaces to use them or FTEQW, which I am sure both of those clients can also use them just fine.)

what's wrong with the current sounds!? They're like 50% of the reason why I play Quake in the first place

This is pretty lame... they just resampled the 11khz sounds up to 44khz. Which of course is more space, more loading time, same or worse sound. If you set the engine to run at 44khz, it does this automatically at load-time, hallelujah. The only thing the sound packs do have different is a couple of sounds from Qtest, which had a few 22khz version of some Quake sounds. Big whoop.

I've not used these sounds, but vB from Besmella was pretty enthusiastic about the project and liked them quite a bit.

        There is also this project:

        http://www.mindabuse.com/mindgrid/audio/quake/

        With a 22 MB download:

I like the original Quake sounds, haven't tried the above and admit to not being familiar enough with the above projects or pros/cons/advantages/disadvantages of any of the above.

Did you know the fiend jumping is a toilet plunger? Next time I take a dump I'll make a higher sampling of that.

They are flaming me, just offering opinions on the subject. We like to do that here.

Although, I don't know if anyone here has tried them (I haven't).

I'd rather hear what people that tried them have to say. I know a number of players that like both of those sound packs on other boards.

I posted this topic specifically for tw1st3r!

He asked if there were any higher quality replacement sounds when Yellow and I were playing RA last night.

                  Doh!

Yeah, but your comment was like "Don't go watch that movie, I know it is gonna suck" versus someone who actually saw the movie giving an opinion on it.

You think they won't be any better --- and maybe you are right --- but you haven't tried them. At least, you hadn't at the time you did that post.

That being said, I haven't tried them because I like my Quake sounds as is. But, then again, I used to swear by DOS Quake.exe and then once I used GL Pro I never would do that old quake.exe again.

I checked out 3 of the sounds. I didn't hear any difference what so ever.

You are right though. When I first read your post I thought it was some mofo making his own sounds to replace the current ones. I listened to the 3 shortly after.

I don't have a care for this project though.

This is NOT a flame. I'm just letting you know what it is, after checking it out.

i use the resampled ones.. and there's a difference

the Mindgrid Sound Pack is pretty nice, except maybe for a few sounds that are irritating. you might want to use it in EZQuake with the Metroid custom hud made by DD from qw.nu, it feels like a different game

more screenshots with weird huds here
one quake to rule them all.
