Its strategy phen. Connect play learn to survive and capture the ball. Sounds easier said then done. If you have a good team mate then working together helps. I prefer to defend and assist then to actually capture. Qball offers a new challenge and some very good strategy, after a few games and learning how it works, it becomes awsome and its very fast paced, never a dull moment unless people RQ and ruin an entire game because they are scared to learn and possibly loose at something new. Me and i forget who, beat lenny and mull or wolv at qball big time. Just gotta learn it to enjoy it.

You'd say this compared to ctf, not dm.

        Tips:
Personally, I like to bind the same key i use for the "hook" in ctf as I do for the AXE just makes it more natural to me. I use mouse2, and mouse1 for attack.
The ball will drop if you switch a weapon, this includes the axe as well. So, using mouse2 i can both grab the ball and drop it.
Pressing attack or jump while selecting the axe(or another gun) will power toss the ball. Just aim press mouse1 and mouse2 a split second after.

I increased the velocity forward when jumping a bit, which doesnt translate exactly to QW style movements, but its a bit faster to strafe jump than normally.

Also, at some times when exiting the water, u can actually double wall jump on the lip of the lower bridge and be lifted all the way to the upper bridge on dm3.

Whenever the game feels too frantic, I will usually just step back and try to play goal tender.
        ____
This is a type of mod that probably would have been up there with CTF and DM if it were made back in the day imho.

I thought the ball went to team base, no wonder I suck at it.
Think it was the maya or tolteks or something that used to play a deathmatch like this.
Kind of similar to basketball too.the goal was a hoop on a wall but it was sideways and no hands were allowed.Loser died.
            Would make an EZ mod.

Back around 2004, some old school MPlayer QBALL players asked me to recreate QBALL, as the original mod was absolutely no where to be found. I had to watch 5 demos to get the gameplay down. A year later, everyone i tried to show QBall to just got bored of it after 1 game. I had seen BombRun and liked it's fast paced action, and adapted that gameplay into the QBall mod, calling it QBall Assault. Which again got very few players. So, I ripped out the basics and added it to the round based, full inventory style of ClanArena, thus SpeedBall was born.

SpeedBall was actually an old C64 game back in the 80s very similar to what the CAx sub-mod is.

It would be even better if you had to pass the ball through the quad like hockey.

Yes, something that would require just a bit of skill would go a long way to increase the excitement.
You could invert the quad to pass the ball under for goals or place it on a wall sideways like the toltek's DM or use a teleporter to return the ball to center ice or wherever.Maybe have some kind of faceoff at the spawn point like Bball or hockey, hell you could make use of a goalie that could deflect the ball with RL with a no splash handicap.
