  • So I'm Thinking about Making some Quake-Art

Made a run to the dollar store yesterday and grabbed up some bulk-packs of pens/pencils/erasers and I'm itching to get at them to make something cool.

Obviously, I'm on a Quake-Kick right now, and thinking about making an image of something from Quake, but I can't think of what. My art style is a little spastic and on the annorexic side. Anyway, suggestions are welcome

Here's a link or two to some examples of my work

Make an image of a shambler about to smash down on the Quaker, or draw a quaker shafting another out of the air. Something interesting like that. I wish I could draw worth shit, LOL.

I'd like to see some Quake art. Like Monster, I have no artistic talent. I wish I could think of some ideas, if I can come up with one, I'll let you know.

If you make something cool, we can post it on the homepage here.

I have the penciling down for a pretty nice Quake-Ranger right now. He's just standing there though, looking all badass.

I'm sure we'd all like to see that when you get it done. It might even become our logo, heh. :d

Well, not that I think I will, but incase I just totally screw the pooch on this, I'll show you a WIP I have so far.

              WIP Quake Marine

I've taken a few liberties with his equipment, axe, and armor but most noticably is the slain monster at his feet. I decided to go with something that looked looked familiar and yet was a new beast. Sorta like a Fiend with a bit more lovecraftian flare. I might add tentacles pouring out its mouth or something disgusting like that.

The SP game of quake gave me the impression it was supposed to be disgusting: everything was supposed to look like it was covered in a thin layer of slime, rust, or blood. Had the technology been present, I wouldve imagined the demons should wrhythe, vomit or sizzle when killed.

              ..Yummyyy..

2 lines to make the chest 50% wider and it would very much resemble the Quake guy. Mostly the Quake guy has a larger chest.

I like your art Style, and I'd say "go for it!", because it really does fit with Quake. I'd make some, but I'm really more of a cartoonist.

                      DONE (sorta)

Well, here it is fully inked!! :d

BTW, sorry I couldn't take your advice Baker, I was inking it by the time you made that comment. (D'oh!)

No color so far. I'm trying to decide what would be the best method of colorizing it. Should I use segmented color chunks like cel-shading? or should I try and airbrush?

If I try and airbrush, the color will look very smooth and silky while the lines remain rigid so, there's that problem

If I cel-shade, it will suit the line art well, but I lose detail and subtlety.

That looks great. I can't wait to see what that looks like when it's colored in.

Looks awesome!! Cool looking monster the guy is crushing. From what you said, I would do the airbrushing.
