    dose anyone around hear do any modding for Grand theft auto san andreas? if so i was looking for a model of a plant that is in the game. i only have the game for ps2 and im not sure i can even get it to it to pull out the model. or if any one elce knows where i can find a model of the plant im looking for let me know.

    plop the ps2 disc into your dvd drive, see what you can see.

      well i found a different plant model but its in a .car format i haven't found anything to open it yet let alone convert it to a mdl. i just want to grow weed in E1M1 lol

        Hello JDSTONER,

        You can of course rip anything out of other games and stick it into your Quake for personal use.
        But, for whatever reason, if you want to share it one day with others who may be interesting, it would be a good idea to use a free or gpl�ed model.

        Especially when it comes to flowers, trees and plants, there are many different ones available. Now, that you are also a brave member of inside3d, you could try this thread to start with.

        Someone, I cannot recall his name at the moment, did some plants in E1M1 too.
        I know, they are not that type of plants you are looking for, but...
        Be sure to make it not solid, so you can walk through them and enjoy the smell

              thanks MG i saw that one but i did not like it. it was just not real looking to me but i think its the best im gonna do for now so im gonna work with it. i don't think the maker of that model is a grower because that plant shows that it has a nutrient burn/salt build up. maybe if i keep the rain effect on in e1m1 it will flush the plant.

              i will also make post my dr recommendation so the grunts don't try to throw me in jail!

              i can tell you as much about growing as you all have told me about quake but that a totally a different website.

                OK after a LOT of trying i got the model in the game it looks like i it will work with a mdl or an obj so that is cool but i cant seem to keep the skin on it.

                this is the biggest issues i have when working with models is the skins...
                when i dl the obj file and opened it with noesis it did not have the skin on it.

                i tried converting it to a mdl and opening it with qme to try and put the skin inside the mdl file but it did not like the jpg file type and when i changed it to bmp with gimp i could not set it to 8bit only 24. so qme still did not like it.

                i know i could have a lot of fun converting models to be used in quake

                1. could some one tell me how to set the skin right
                (im shure there are other post im missing that would help so if you have a link to one that would be super swell)

                2. also i have access to tons of models that come in a hex code (wii games) any idea on how to convert them to mdl?

                thankyou all for your help on my silly projects maybe some day i will do something of value that everyone can enjoy

                  Hello Josh,

                  Your tree looks like a white chrsitmas tree
                  But please stay calm, we have emergency exits on the left and on the right.

                  The thing with the skin is a tricky thing.

                  First of all, you must be sure, when downloading a model that it also has a texture. Some models have a texture in the preview thumbnail but doesnt have it included in the download.
                  OK, so when you see a seperate texture in your download (.blend files can have a texture inside the model file), it should be alright.

                  Next is Noesis:
                  Noesis usually needs the texture inside the same folder as the model with the same name. So be sure that your files match.
                  Converting something with Noesis into .mdl, that do not show a texture in Noesis makes no sense. The outcoming .mdl will not have a texture too.

                  So, before converting something with Noesis, it must show the texture in the Noesis window.

                  The trick with .md2 and .md3:
                  As you know, these formats have included texture paths inside the model.
                  The textures do not need to be inside the same folder as the model.
                  If you do not know the path name, Darkplaces will tell you when you load them in the console when you start the map.
                  Something like:
                  model tree.mdl missing texture in models/textures/tree.tga
                  So you know now, where to put your texture.

                  QME:
                  If you want to assign a texture inside qme, it must of course match the models mapping. Otherwise it will be missalligned.
                  The format, as you already mentioned must be one of the "old" formats like .jpg, .bmp, .pcx
                  But do not worry, even though these formats cannot have transparent layers/channels, you can add .tga�s or .png�s via replacement texture without a problem.
                  So go ahead and assing a .jpg with white areas (where the transparent should be) and use a replacement .tga later.
                  It will work just fine.

                  Best is however, if you can find and download models which already have the Quake family model formats. You will have less issues then.
                  But usualy there is a way to get every model format into Quake model format somehow....
                  Sometimes you must convert to another format first and then begin your work chain as mentioned.

                  For further questions, you should also consider to ask at inside3d�s model subforum.
                  Because many many people had the same issues you are having now as well. And there are most probably answers to every problem.
                  Well, except one: How can I convert 3DS max�s .max format ?
                  As you cannot do it without 3DS max program, as it is a unique format which is not free.
                  That is why I hate this format and all people who can work with it, show that they use pirated software, because nobody would pay so much money.

                    I think it's great that people pirate $4000 software. Let's see 3ds max - $4000, blender - free. Can someone explain to me what 3ds max does that is $4000 more awesome than blender?

                    Autodesk wants to pirate your wallet. We should pirate everything they have ever made to every person alive so they will never sell anything ever again.

                    note: a large portion of the tutorials I have followed to learn 3d modelling were for 3ds. The only thing is, I did those tutorials in blender @ Autodesk, your stuff is overpriced and unnecessary.

                      i completely agree with gypsy about blender and 3ds-max.
                      ive tried both and i actually found blender to be more easy and convenient

                      someone would have to be stupid to pay 4K for a program while there is also a free program
                      which does the same, is more convenient and easier to use and can do the exact same

                      and i think its downright outrageous that the makers of 3ds-max dare asking 4K for a program.
                      you're just asking for people to pirate your program with such an insane price.

                        4k for a program is just as crazy as paying $200 for a my little pony toy but god bless all the people who do
