  • Project Offset (sad story)

    Hello,

I was searching for fantasy shooters (as usual), as I came across this game title:
    Project Offset

There are a lot of material about this game available. As well as interviews with several development team members, so I thought:
Whooow, an epic game is coming....
... but before I continue, please watch these clips, which include many available clips, collected into 1 bigger clip.

Now, to continue the above started sentence:
In the year 2010 Intel bought the small team and shortly after, canceled the project...
They ripped the team appart and put them into different projects...

This game (based on the existing materials) was without a doubt epic and that small team created amazing things and features.

So, ... no luck in finding a fantasy-themed shooter (after Dark Messiah of Might and Magic) again

Only Crysis, Black Ops and Call of Duty Clones everywhere. How sad!

Well, be prepared that you wont see one this generation. The only hope is some kind of indie game, but not commercial one. (which is totally fine, if the gameplay is interesting)

There was also another cancelled game, Lone Wolf: Flight from the Dark. I see all the sites are already down, so there is no much info to be found about the game.

There is this game being worked on, called Hellraid. While it shows some potential, I have a feeling it will be dumb and straightforward, like all those Serious Sams and Painkillers.

@Seven - when I used to give you a hard time about expanding the SMC to be it's own game (ie...with maps, etc). I always saw it coming out something like this. Within reason of course, but overall pushing the limits of Quake to something in this direction.
