Thought I'd let the both of you know (the EA hater bandwagoneers), The game is provided in its original form, along side a copy of DOSBOX.
Maybe you two should just hop off the bandwagon and come to realize that just because its offered from Origin =/= DRM hell.
Honestly, at first I just laughed at the both of you for realizing EA/Origin was attached to it. Then I was like, well there is no sense in you both screwing yourselves out of this game just because of misconceptions. You could easily get an account, get the game for free, go to your Program Files (or Program Files x86 if your on 64bit Windows) , Origin Games folder, locate the SimCity 2000 folder inside that folder, and burn the damned thing.
It has zero DRM attached to it, the game doesn't even launch through Origin. It has dick all to do with Origin SHORT OF, it being offered on there.
I did all that homework because I care, and I don't want you two bozo's screwing anyone else out of free games that I suggest to other people.
You can take or leave the information I supplied here, but to the REST of you, ignore those two guys at least in this post. They are full of fail.
I went to play this today and ,I had already installed the game. The game wont launch through Origin, so I went to reinstall, same shit. Origin just says Install game, Origin doesn't even provide you with a shortcut to the game on your desktop after installing it.
You gotta go into the folder its installed to,and manually run the game, like any other old game that utilizes DOSBOX.

^ my SimCity 2000 Special Edition game folder folder.
I found another cat spreading that same misinformation over at @ IGN
SimCity 2000 Currently Free on Origin - IGN
I tweeted @ Katie to update the article to tout that it has zero DRM , can't even be launched via Origin, and utilizes DOSBOX.Last edited by Mindf!3ldzX; 12-10-2014, 02:48 PM.Want to get into playing Quake again? Click here for the Multiplayer-Startup kit! laissez bon temps rouler!

I loved that game as a kid i had the urban renewal kit as a kid and would set up the town to have a military base and a nuclear power plant. then load the city up in sim copter and steel the war military helicopter and blow up the power plant killing everyone! by far sim city was one of the best FPS at the time! hell i even hacked the radio station that played in the helicopter to play Ozzy by overriding there wav files with my own. pc microphone held up to a boombox just to record sound bites. #Be4Mp3

Origin > Steam, especially considering the CONSTANT flow of freebies. I've had an Origin account since 2013 and my game collection is booming with goodies.Want to get into playing Quake again? Click here for the Multiplayer-Startup kit! laissez bon temps rouler!

470 games on steam, about 50 or so I'm sure I've gotten for free from various events, about 300 I didn't plan to get, but got in really cheap bundles and most of the rest I actually bought
I think I'll stick to steam since almost every free game offered on origin so far I either own or wouldn't play, but I don't think it deserves the hate it gets anymoretwitch

Wing commander 3, Sim city 2000 SE and Crusader no remorse can be run without DRM. there is a .dat file that looks like an iso image, which can be mounted in any version of dosbox and played in it, just like in most DOS games released through steam.
EA did try to attach DRM on the version of dosbox provided through origin, which is easy to bypass anyway.
