  • Ubisoft's The Crew, incoming review.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVDUbfdfBPk[/ame]

I recently picked up another driving/racing game for my son, daughter, and myself. The Crew! First things first, out of the box it has full support for our G27

My son likes games with depth/story. As far as I can tell, this game has one.I can't speak for this section though.
My daughter likes 'cruising' in driving games, rarely engaging other players or completing missions etc... lol. To each their own!
I demand competition 5-0's everywhere I go are the goal. I'll probably spend most my time in PvP events/places.... lol.

Do you like racing games? Ever considered buying a gaming peripheral device exclusive to one genre of gaming? like racing wheel/pedals , flight stick / throttle , etc ???

I use to enjoy the entire NFS series up until maybe around 2002 or so when I fell out of gaming. I re-installed NFS 3 hot pursuit awhile back and boy let me tell you it's freaking insane old graphics lol. Anyway I can't for the life of me find myself to get back into racing games. I think working the nascar races in Daytona Beach, Homestead & Talladega ruined it for me. I use to work for Miller Industries running tow truck's picking up the wrecks for 2 years.

My thing right now is NFL Madden 2015 on the Xbox. Been home for 6 days and that is all I have been doing as for gaming. I head back to work tomorrow. Boo!

EA tech support got unruly and took my valued proud customer since 2011 Pin,threw it on the ground and told me Quake1 sucks balls.

Obviously, not really. But he might as well had, he would have pissed me off less.

I used to like Need for Speed and stuff like that, played with the family, but to me it eventually gets kinda boring.

I also liked the old Colin McRae Rally for Playstation.

Recently I tried some open source driving simulator, I think it might have been TORCS, and I found the underlying physics quite impressive but the game not interesting enough.

I'll have to check out TORCS g_B. I played NFS all throughout my past with gaming. I remember playing the first NFS self titled DEMO many many times. IIRC you had a choice between Viper and Diablo or Countach..... And it was damn near impossible to milk anything out of the demo other than what was given to you.

GB, when I first ran The Crew and had not modified any settings for the game yet. It was insane haha. I have an idea I'm going to try later tonight. gonna mount smartphone to wheel and record video while playing game with full-force feedback / centerspring / the works....

see if it captures some wheel based / forcefeedback chaos.

for now I'm going to check out TORCS I'll post back once I've messed with that.

Haha, that might be fun to watch.

I think it's a work in progress, when I played it there weren't too many interesting tracks and cars etc. It was very much about car physics, a simulator.

But if that's really the game I was thinking of, then there should be user made cars etc. to download on their forum.

update : Torc was shelved for the moment.

It's still installed but it's worse than setting up quake Have you ever played any of the Trackmania games? It is an eSport last I remember, and it's pretty much free with endless entertainment value if you enjoy wonky shit like this....

Maniaplanet Universal Demo - Free access to Trackmania 2, Shootmania Storm and all community-created content. For a very long time if I wasn't playing Quake I was playing Trackmania : NATIONS , but apparently (I think?),Trackmania NATIONS is now obsolete

I had a hard time finding anything about it in google search, and that's the only one I had experience with. now there is a mania fps.

It's probably going to be trash just like every other Ubisoft game since video games became mainstream that isn't Rayman. Who knows though, the concept is pretty cool.

On a more positive note, to answer your question, yes I do thoroughly enjoy racing games. Both realistic and arcade (although I have more of a preference toward arcade) are what I might consider one of my favorite genres. I used to have a race wheel for computer games years ago, and it was pretty rad! I also do enjoy kart racers like Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing, as well as one of my favorite racing games of all time being F-Zero.

Also on a moderately related note, now that you bring up games with story or "depth" as you describe it. I appreciate and thoroughly enjoy games that do it well, like the Metal Gear games, Ace Attorney games, various RPG maker games, and VNs. However, most games that try to fit that description are a joke. I want to play a video game, not watch a Hollywood reject's vision for cinema. Remember when video games were, I don't know... video games?
You'll have to excuse my conservative ranting, I get really passionate when talking about video games because I don't really understand why they are such overblown drama pieces.
                Quake is for nerds.
