  • Aliens Vs Predator Classic Redux

Anyone ever play the original PC AvP (not the jaguar game)? It is, in my opinion, the most true to the original movies in look and feel. It is the only game that creates such a sense of dread and actually scares me (which says a lot, I'm hard to scare lol) It is exceptionally well done and I wanted to show off this project someone did:

Aliens versus Predator Classic Redux mod - Mod DB

It looks really good and puts in some sounds from the movie - the one guy working on it replaced every weapon and enemy model, and added new things to the maps, as well as retextured them all with high-res textures. It requires AvP Classic 2000 on steam which if you don't have it - well you might as well get it right now because its $1.24.

Save 75% on Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000 on Steam

    Here's a mod video:

Aliens VS Predator 2 (2001) was the best in franschise! All the critic and fan reviews favored the second part, the legacy of it's multiplayer and the majority of it's modifications just proove it. I played both and tell you now that AVP (1999) has some serious gameplay issues, which were corrected in the second part, although by itself AVP was a great game!!!

Seems like new mod does enhance the game!

I would play as a predator, hide somewhere up high invisibly and shoot opposing players with insta-kill poisonous darts or whatever they were using zoom.

It wasn't really fair. Somehow I enjoyed doing it, though, and was laughing about the idea of a player aiming wandering around unable to locate me and then suddenly be killed.

But yeah, talk about serious gameplay issues ... it wasn't fair at all.

I can't recall if this was AVP 1 or AVP 2.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

IDK why but I never cared for AvP 2's multiplayer. It wasn't nearly as scary as the first one could be, and there was very little atmosphere in comparison. Don't get me wrong, I liked AvP 2 a lot, but the game's designs just looked so bland, including the hive parts. Maybe that's more of the engine's fault though. But with the multiplayer if i wasn't playing a mode like Evac with a group of friends it just felt horribly disorganized and chaotic.

That, and they totally screwed with the sound libraries beyond what they should've. The Pulse Rifle sound sucked.

That being said, I enjoyed the Alien life cycle immensely. It was the best feature of the multiplayer game, and I wish it was in the new one (which was alright but was marred by poor design choices for combat, and poor mechanics in general)
