The Best Games I've Ever Played

Out of the embarrassingly large catalog of games I've played, these few stand out as true pieces of art and worth-while experiences (single player impact only):

I'm sure there are others that should be on this list, but I can't remember them at the moment :/

These are some games that I have yet to play/beat but want to:

Blood, Strife, Thief and Dark Souls.

It would be nice if Atari would stop being a bunch of Nazis and release the Blood Source code so we can get a real source port.

IMO, the mid 90's to mid 2000's was, overall, the best decade for games.

source-port? totally not needed. you can play blood fine through dosbox.
at gog.com you can buy blood - one unit whole plus plasma-pack which has dosbox included.
i have it myself and it works perfect on high resolution. all i had to do was set resolution inside blood to 800x600 and then set dosbox fullscreen resolution to 1920x1080, works perfectly
and i had used logitech setpoint to set the 2 side-buttons of my mouse to '[' and ']' which i had set inside blood to be for next weapon and previous weapon

and you deserve a hi5 for earthworm jim on that list, awesome and funny game
doom 1-3, duke3d and worms i all love too. the worms series is one of best ever
quake4 is awesome too though, i love it too

im a huge fan of legacy of kain & soul reaver series too.
if you never played them, you should totally try them, they're all totally kick-ass
for soul reaver 1 i recommend downloading psx emulator though, the pc version is impossible to get running on modern O/S
but it works perfectly though ePSXe emulator
other games in series the pc versions all work great on modern O/s too


and i totally agree, all games on my greatest games of all time list are from 90's as well.
back then people knew how to make a game serious fun without bothering to much about story or being to busy with graphics. back then games were just made to be pure awesome-ness

I actually bought Blood from GOG not too long ago but was having some lag issues with DOSBox which was really weird. I think I'll tinker with it again. I am kinda spoiled by all these great source ports for other games though...never played Legacy of Kain, was thinking about revisiting some PSX games. That reminds me of some games I left of the list.

try setting resolution inside blood to 800x600 and edit the dosboxBlood.cfg and dosboxBlood_addon.cfg files inside the install folder
and change the line 'fullresolution=original' by replacing 'original' with the resolution you wanna use there

that worked perfectly for me. setting the resolution inside blood itself higher then 800x600 caused bad performance for me too.

try that method i suggested, it worked perfectly for me,
and it does the exact same as setting the resolution inside blood higher but without the performance drop



and you totally have to try soul reaver and legacy of kain games, they're amazing
raziel is one of the most awesome game characters ever, the creatures in the game look kick-ass and the story is real good too even though it can be confusing cuz its non-linear.
first legacy of kain on dos i didnt like much though personally, to simple and to much rpg and real different from the other games in the series. so id say skip the very first one and start at soul reaver 1

I have a lot of favorites, but you should really play through thief. It really is an amazing game all around.

My personal favorites and what I find are some of the best I've played are Quake 1, Unreal, Thief, Doom, Half-Life, Duke3D, Hexen & Hexen 2, Descent 1 and 2, and a lot more of what you listed. Worms Armageddon is still especially a blast to play.

I've played some Thief and loved it, I must beat it. IF I had to pick my favorite 2 games System Shock 2 would be one of them. As you probably know, same team and same engine as Thief.

Half-Life

I really have to play this game. I've read many good comments about this game. From my understanding, some people think that this game features the best FPS single-player experience. I watched some youtube videos for Half-Life. The game seems very addictive.

Do you know where I can find a demo for Half-Life?

IMO, the mid 90's to mid 2000's was, overall, the best decade for games.

It was also the best decade for music! (But then again, probably not.)
