  • Terminator: Future Shock

Hey guys, check out this awesome terminator FPS I discovered that was made back in the day.

It was made by bethesda in 95, and used a true 3D engine with 3D enemy models (still weapon sprites though but they look nice) and full mouselook support out of the box. It even had vehicles that don't suck and handle surprisingly like vehicles in more modern games.

The sequel had multiplayer support with vehicles and higher resolution support (and you got to play as the terminator in MP )

All things considered from my experience with it, it's probably the best terminator game, and even without the terminator name, it's a pretty good FPS on its own

    Here's a gameplay video

And here's a clip of the awesome music since no recordings on youtube have music in the BG (dosbox doesn't record it for some reason)

game style is reminiscent of doom, yet the 3-d is more quakish. the graphics do indeed look good also. the only gripe i have about this game is if you could go the whole nine yards and make the game full 3-d, why can't you go the extra step and make the weapons 3-d also. the fact that they used sprites for weapons makes it look like the game was rushed in development.

Actually I kinda understand why they did. At the time the models are very low poly, so sprites allow you to create much more detailed weapons - look at the sequel for example, it had high-resolution sprites for the weapons and they are more detailed then a 3D model could ever be at that time.

Plus I would imagine it was already hard to run at the time considering the levels were huge, so it would help with performance

i didn't know about the level of detail when using sprites compared to full 3-d. also, could you post a more specific link to the download, i would like to try it, even if it's a demo or something.

an interesting thought is adding ternminators to quake. perhaps to replace the grunt or enforcer

Get the CD rip, it's pre-setup with dosbox - but I suggest you download and replace the dosbox exe, sdl, and sdl_net files with the latest ones so it runs faster

If you have Future Shock and Terminator Skynet, Skynet will upgrade the textures and stuff of Future Shock too to make it look quite a bit a better. There's also Terminator 2029 and Terminator Rampage.

All these games were made by Bethesda before Fallout, and I think they were the first ones to have the wsad+mouse look (without mouse movement).

Reminds me of Marathon and all the Doom clones of that time. Even the shotgun animation is copied from Doom.

The vehicle stuff is where it looks to differ from Doom the most.
