totally agree, id love to see a new heretic or hexen game. but then in the style of heretic1/hexen2, not the heretic2 or hexen2 style. the first games were a lot cooler i think

Agree, doing is better than petitioning. The 90s are over, these days companies only make something when their business people assure them it will sell some obscene amount of copies.

I would love to see a Heretic 3 made. I do have a few conditions though:

Uses the very latest ID engine
Keeps all features of the original
Has same physics
Keeps same theme
Has same outdoorsy feel
Uses same weapons/tombs
Hs same enemies

Basically.....don't make a DooM 3 of it!

Your list contradicts itself.

If it uses the latest available id engine (idtech4), it will be difficult to make large outdoor areas and bright light. Same physics might be impossible with that engine.

You basically want an identical game but in a newer engine? Then why do a remake in the first place. Just for eyecandy? Eyecandy comes at a price.

Regarding the Rage engine, I don't think there is an SDK for that even so no one here or elsewhere can use it to make games unless id give them the tools.

A game that isn't allowed to do anything new is also very boring to make for developers. You would have to pay them so well that they don't notice how bored they are because they're spending money all the time.

The game features levels derived from 20 years of Sonic history, spreading across three eras: Classic, Dreamcast and Modern, which are played as either Classic Sonic or Modern Sonic.

The question remains, is Id Software 'as cool as' Sega ? I would like to think so... I am pretty sure that if someone at Id Softare says "Hey,lets make another game in the Quake franchise" , and it doesn't involve a Quake1 "Reboot/TrueSequel" , Carmack will object.

He stated his opinion,and I am pretty sure the next time the Quake franchise is given a new game,it will be aimed at our direction.Unless he magically decides Strogg is better,which,I highly doubt.


edited in later after deeper thought ; When and if we launch forward with an epic 'on our own' venture of bringing a new quake to the masses ; Id would probably raise some shit about it, which would in turn lead to us being like,well bro let me tell ya what, unstuff our stockings with whatever SHITE you planned on this year/next year,and begin work on Q1 "The Next Incarnation" from ID.

I agree with everything you wrote, except for "same weapons". I want the weapons to be very different; I want something really new and fresh. Quake 3 was not very successful in the long run because the weapons were the same. (Shotgun, grenade launcher, rocket launcher, we have already used those weapons).

I want something totally eye-popping... Something that will freak people out.

Let me be a bit more specific:

Heretic to me was one of the first all action games in the mid 90's to best DooM and that to me was epic. At the time there was a handful of games that I played over and over, not just in single player mode but on a lan and over phonelines. Right up there was Rise of the triads, DooM and Duke Nukem. Even after Quake 1 was released and everyone went online, I still played these games until eventually the ywere forgotten....well almost.

I still have Heretic and DooM (running through Kickstart so supports mouselook and runs on modern operating systems) so I on occasion will still play them. I look back through rose tinted glasses and wonder what these games would be like if made current....remember how DooM 3 turned out compared to the original....I didn't like it because it was too dark, too slow and had no outside maps like the original. So it is with this in mind that I made my wish list (remember guys...this is my wish list and not to be torn to shreds as is an opinion, my opinion and if shared by others then great but please play nice).

In essence, I would love to see Heretic remade to look modern but feel like the old one. I am a gamer, not a modder (no ability, no time to learn) so enjoy simply turning on my machines and playing my chosen games. However, I would like to point out that I am neither a fanatic or a fanboy so enjoy many different games made by other people and do not fixate on just one thus can appreciate many elements of many different companies offerings so do have over 100 titles currently in my collection spread across different platforms so even though I state I would like to see Heretic remade and have a preference, I still have, play and enjoy the original and feel that its most likely never going to be bettered if remade.

Surely as modders, you must realise yourselves that if you enjoy something, you want to improve on it and perpetuate it. Just like remastering classic film or audio, that was my dream You are all entitled to your's, whatever that may be

Go in Hexen:Edge of Chaos forum and ask if you can throw some coin to support the project.
