  • DOOM 1 and 2

There's a lot of threads about other games like Heretic and Hexen and many other of id's games besides quake. I am wondering what is the best resource for DOOM 1 and 2.

I rather like the Risen 3D source port, and I'd like try other things in it than the models and textures and weapons that are available on the home page. I'm having a problem finding anything around the various forums other than maps.

I like many of the models available there, but I really hate a couple like the baron of hell and would like to replace them with something better, but google has completely failed me when it comes to finding such things. I've been all over Doomworld and Newdoom and many other forums and can't find a decent resource for stuff other than pre-made packs for jfdoom etc.

What's the best place to find mods and such for the various source ports. Is there a forum with the quality of quakeone for it? =]

    Doomworld Forums - Everything Else

    Doomworld.

I think they also run a database of Doom wads etc, similar to quaddicted. Regarding clients, there are quite a few engines to choose from.

I guess there isn't much a good place then, as I said I've been all over doomworld. That sub you linked is just random banter it seems...

      Thanks anyways.

I think doomworld is a quakeone-quality forum for Doom. Have you actually asked the people there?

          Hello Roy Batty,

There are so many files flying around, that I dont know which you want.
I searched through my harddisc and found a "BaronOfHell" replacement model.
I have no clue where it came from.
Maybe it is the one you are looking for... maybe not.

          DOWNLOAD

If you are looking for a Doom compilation with everything packed together, there are some available.
Unfortunately they include the game wads as well and this is illegal.

          Good luck,
          Seven

GoldenBoy: I'll register and ask around a bit then. =]

Seven: I'll check it out, hopefully it's nicer than spitters, his is too "skinny" and I don't like it very much, but his other models are great. I'll let you know, and thanks!

Seven: that's actually the same model as included with risen3d sitters and abs pack xD , thanks anyways though.

WhiteMagicRaven: I already have all the source ports, and I play Zandronum/Skulltag regularly too. I'm mainly interested where to find models, textures, etc, that are not in pak's. I'll get into Heretic and Hexen more in some months, so I am sure you can help me out there, ask well as Inkub0. =]

I'm intersted in models and other stuff too for GZDOOM/Zandronum. Model effects for GZDoom sucks a lot, especially Imp/Cacodemon/Mancubus fireballs

Voxel's is better for old games, then models. Models ruins good feelings as for me, even doomsday with model interpolation and exellent particle's, can't replace old flat sprites =)
I can accept voxel's as next step.

I like the classic look also, which is why I play it with zandronum and chocolate doom. But when I play it like that, I want it to look as it originally did. I need to fix my dos machine to play it for real on a CRT, but I need some new fans for my voodoo first.

I also like to tinker with modern source ports and see how good I can get the game to look with modern models and particle effects as well as high res textures. I enjoy playing both ways, it's a bit more challenging without auto aim, and I can get some of my younger friends to play it too when it looks that way.

if you want to play doom exactly like how it originally did, try GZdoom.

it has that retro pixely look, no filters at all over textures and you get that typical pixely-ness with all textures and such.

i myself only use it for a rott mod i have, but if you like that oldschool pixelated textures without filters and other fancy effects look, you should give GZdoom a try

for doom itself i use risen3d since i like their models a lot better then the doomsday models. some of the models for doomsday look just downright fugly, and the ones used in risen3d look a lot better imo
                        .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?

I personally use this client to play Doom, it looks pretty vanilla but has mouselook and a few options. It's also openGL.

i dont know of any engine though which has quakeone quality models and such.
the best i know is risen3d.
although development for risen3d is more closed, and through the launcher you can only use packs of models and no choosing which models you wanna use.

if you want that, id say doomsday forums. its still kinda busy at moments.

ZDoom actually, GZDoom is ZDoom with OpenGl options, which isn't needed for the classic look/software renderer.
