  • Cry Engine 3 !?!

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWvgETOo5ek]Crysis 3 - CryEngine3 Tech Trailer - YouTube[/ame]

    Woooooooooow. I just realized other games are already using this engine, but that Crysis 3 looks epic.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAmFRWm4TEo[/ame]

    The US Army has invested $50 some odd million into Cry Engine 3 real war-time simulation training. So noobs can go out can get owned / learn from mistakes w/ unlimited respawns, til they reach Thresh level and can take care of buisness IRL.

          some people are always so blah.

          I would play Quake running under CryEngine3, but I doubt it would happen.
          The next Quake will be either ID Tech 5 or ID Tech 6, the latter of which doesn't exist (yet).

            Why does Quake have to be a corridor shooter with pitch black shadows? Alternately, Cry3 can do everything except make a corridor shooter with pitch black shadows?

            I understand what you are saying, but I would think that you of all people could see the potential an engine like this has for a remake of any game.

              But it wouldn't happen. Id won't buy a license to develop on Cry Engine 3, when they can inhouse with Id Tech 5 or the upcoming 6 for free.

                      I'm sorry, I was frustrated and tired when I posted that. Let me explain better: not every engine excels at running every kind of game.

                      Cryengine has traditionally been aimed at creating realistic outdoor landscapes / nature, down to the simulation of atmospheric particle scattering and physics effects. So when you want to create a temple ruin in a beautiful forest with a river and lots of vegetation and animals, Cryengine is the ticket.

                      Quake is traditionally a fantasy/medieval-themed indoor shooter. It just makes sense to pick an engine that already is behind similar games when you do a remake. So for Quake, I'd pick an engine that is proven to excel at such a game.
