  • Half LIfe 2 question

I bought HL2 when it first came out, played it all the way through and then put it away! That was a long long time ago obviously. With the advent of Steam and the whole "you don't really own what you bought" mentality for game purchases, I am unable to play my game, due to lost user account/name and password!

Anyone know how I can get back to playing Half Life 2? Please post it up or PM me. I see there are a ton of cool maps and mods for this great game as well.

Here's a pic I jus' took that shows I own a RETAIL copy:

    Thanks,

That's why I wrote these in the handbook. Haven't installed it for years, though.

I didn't know, but Google told me after 0.35 seconds how to install it offline

I don't know, but it seems to me that your best choice would be to simply buy a copy of orange box on steam, which comes with Episode 2. As you seem to intend to use the game to play third party mods and maps, and many of those are developed with Episode 2 as base game. And nowadays a copy of orange box is quite cheap. If you wait for a holiday sales, then it will cost even less.

From what I understand, a few mods have been going completely free if they can managed a total conversion. Before this wasn't possible because if you didn't have the engine by purchasing a Source-engine game you couldn't launch them - but now that TF2 is F2P anybody can get a copy of the engine. The assets are a different story, of course, just like with Quake; but it opens up more options for the mod developers.

I finally did as Doomer suggested And man, has it been AWESOME.

First I replayed Half Llife 2(original), then I played Episode 1, and now onto Episode 2 BUT FIRST... I installed the 2007 SDK(*nod to Hectate) and BLACK mutha' fuggin' MESA baby! OMG that's absolutely gorgeous.

The intro on that is just jaw dropping. If you have a computer that'll play it, and ZERO(WTF, hehe) dollars... it's sooooo worth the price of admission That's right, there is NO price!

Jus' install Steam, Goto Library>Tools and select 2007 SDK, then find the Black Mesa homepage and download the three files, install and BAM, hours of fun reliving a gem!

But man are these mods HUGE!!! Gigs and gigs and gigs of downloads! My little 128gig SSD will be outta room shortly

Anyhoo, that's me in a gaming nutshell, hanging out in some combine architecture or shooting head crabs

            laterzzzzzz...
