1. Custom maps: Do these custom make use standard Quake textures? If so, would some advanced textures appear in these maps?

There are some custom maps that use Quake textures. Those maps end up having a little bit of a patchwork quilt look with retexturing projects. Particularly noticeable in single player maps and Q1Edge and Aerowalk.

Most modern custom maps use few or no ID textures.

Was the new Qrack with the FvF Flame Effect released yet?

I haven't heard anything about it. Doesn't mean there isn't a beta in Yellow's QRack stash.
