The IRC thing has never worked here.

There is #qc at irc.anynet.org which is frequented by people from the modding end of the spectrum. It's a pretty old and well established channel.

It seems the online multiplayer guys (majority here) will simply join a server and chat that way.

The only thing i've found useless about IRC, is that all the information that is provided by the conversations are lost. Or, individually logged on each persons computer. So, that important tidbit of knowledge brought about from a spark of imagination, thru a heated debate - gone the next day.
I could never understand leaving my computer ON all-fn-DAY just to idle on IRC. That and the fact that your ip addy was completely displayed so you could easily get flooded circa 1998...

Forums are much easier to read/find information imho.

Look somewhere on the Internet for the archive of a server/channel... you could be surprised.

And why idling... well P often PM me to play... which I try to do most of the time.
