  • Darkplaces lag on laptop!

I need some advice on how to run Darkplaces on laptop without getting LAG.

Nomater how low i set the settings, in some places i still get lag. Is there a setting in DP that would bring the original Quake graphics settings?

The laptop has a dual core Core i5 2,66 GHz CPU with SSD, but it runs on POS Intel graphics..

    Surely this can be fixed..?..

Considering I can pull it off on my old fossil of a computer, I really don't know. Just filter through the options and see what works best for you I suppose.

Not guarunteeing anything but updating video drivers might help out.

Perhaps could you give some information on this 'POS' intel chip?

I can't really help much unless I know about that.

some maps have unexplained FPS drops, second map in SoA mission pack (the one with the forcefield bridge) = KILLS FPS on an 8-core machine that has dual gpus, dont feel bad buddy, you are Not alone thats 4 sure

took DP over to a buddy's on my flash drive and tested it on his beast of a setup, yep certain maps it would SEEM at the moment there is no current fix for that

In hip1m2, the room with the forcefield bridge is no problem at all for me. And I only have a Nvidia 6200.

Under Options, do Effects -> Quake and Lighting -> Normal.

I used an older version of darkplaces-linux-686-sdl to test.

The water in that room is flickering though (it appears to be moving but doesn't move smoothly.)

ah, its just amazing how on full lighting that bridge chokes up my 560ti

guess for that level yea ill just play it on low light then crank it on the maps that dont have that problem.

It's simple, really. That bridge was not made for full Doom 3 style realtime lighting. Trying to force it is going to create problems.

On some systems I have noticed that r_novis 0 and r_wateralpha 1 can sometimes eek out a little bit more performance. Maybe try experimenting with that and see if it helps ?

                    Kind regards

Forget the lag on laptop - i have juiced up Darkplaces on my own desktop machine with Core i5 3,3 GHz and Radeon HD7870 to max custom settings and was getting LAG. Of course the key word is custom, because on typical ultra settings it runs smooth, but once you manually crank up all those lightning and texture size things, it gets messy.. But somehow i've managed to optimize the settings even on laptop to not get lag and could finish Darkplaces with a friend in coop mode.

The thing is - the lag on laptop does not realy depend on settings, it's just like one said - unexplainable lag in random places.. And i actually felt more lag getting the textures off, rather than with full textures on..

And another thing - Q1 Darkplaces seems to be a more demanding graphical interface than Q2 Evolved.. Have no problems running Q2 Evolved on max setting in my laptop (except AA off).
