  • How's everyone been?

Hey everyone, long time no see!

I found a copy of Doom at a thrift store yesterday, and tweaking it to play like my Quake setup, it made me remember this place. I thought I'd stop by and see how you all have been.

As far as where I've been, I finally finished my college degree last year, and have a bachelors of science in geology. However, the economy and job market are so competitive right now that I've been sending out applications and hardly ever getting a response. I had a few interviews but they picked someone else.

I worked in Pittsburgh for a while since geology is big up there, but after my seasonal job expired, I moved down to stay with my brother in Georgia, and I'm working a part time job 30 minutes away in Tennessee, just saving up before I go back to job hunting for a geology career. That's where I'm at now.

So how about you guys? How has everyone been? How're the servers holding up? Thought I'd be nostalgic and stop by to say hello

Hello. Not sure if i remember you or not. I am formally known as [NP]-Striker-. Good to see you stop by and check thing's out. The Q scene has been slow lately, you are not missing much. Would be nice to get some actual game's going.

Hey Quad! What's up man, we miss you on the servers...

Ever since all the regulars have left I haven't felt a need to really play Quake... that and other IRL stuff...

      All the good Quakers left.

Do you plan on getting back into playing Quake?

Hey Wicked, nice to meet you. I'm not familiar with that name you listed but I do feel like I remember a striker or two when I played. It's been about three years since I've been on here but I played for a good 12+ years or so.

Phenom!! Nice to see you're still around, and I hear ya about the real life stuff. Especially with this job I'm working now, I don't get much free time either

I ended up getting a new laptop since my old one died, and I think my copy of Quake is at home somewhere, but I may look into getting another copy. Some if the more recent games just dont have the feel of Quake, and even starting to play Doom feels nostalgic. Who knows, if I end up with a new copy of the game sometime I'll be sure to pop in again.

I have a feeling I'll be here in some form for a long time, even if I don't play very much at all. I still check the forums about once a day for shenanigans and interesting posts but I haven't played seriously in a few years... I usually jump on for 5-10 minutes roughly 1-2 times a month.. the last game I played was with Pol and got stomped pretty bad, I just don't care to keep the edge up or competition going with the current faces...

I miss the good days when TU and SNS had clan wars and things were prospering still with CAx being introduced and new (non-ID) maps got a lot of play with actual team games of CA, cheating was being cracked down on hard and people were changing things on the front line.

Now you deal with people running their own projects and everything seems so separated that there's multiple versions of Quake 1 in existence. It Kind of sucks to see so much new stuff being generated but no core effort to pull it all together like it used to be, remember Gunther's Hub? Or even when there was a HUB server which sent you to whatever mod/server you wanted to play and that was an actual thing?

R00k doesn't seem to be working on Qrack very much these days either... or any mods so you know something wrong!

Phenom - Haha yeah those clan wars were always fun. Geez, that takes me back even to when I was in elementary school, there was a clan war (I think when I was in Angels of Death), and Mom wouldn't let me play because I had homework to do. Sheesh. And Gunter's hub was amazing too. I really miss Future vs Fantasy, as well as Headhunters. I remember trying to get some interest into HH since it was a mod I played a lot when I was younger.

That's a real shame about the cheating, I don't know why anyone would even bother doing it, seems sort of pointless to me because it just shows they don't have any real Quake skills. But eh...

I'll look into a copy of Quake soon, and if I end up playing the same time you are, feel free to kick my ass for old times sake

Monty - HEY!! Glad to see you again! I got a new laptop so I don't have a copy of Quake right now, but hopefully soon I will. Just keep in mind it's been like 3 years since I've played so I'm going to be very rusty, hah. TU for Life!

Mom - Hey there! Thanks for the info, I'll definitely look into it. I'm going to save up for a certification I need (OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER [hazardous materials training]), and then I'll get back to looking for a job in Geology. I've got a passport as well so I'll definitely take a look at Quebec

Death Knight - Heeeeeyyy! Glad to see you're still around too. Do you still do those audio blogs? Those were always really cool man! TU for Life!

Grim Warlock - Hey thanks! I remember you as well, glad to see so many people still playing

Haven't done one in a long time. They were fun. I wish I had time to sit down and do them, but I've grown so distant from the Quakeone group I don't think I could make a decent one.

Do you want me to PM you a copy of Quake? You already own it, right? So, I think sending you a copy is totally legit.

MadGypsy - That would actually be awesome if you're alright with it. My copy is at home in Alabama but I'm in Georgia, or else I'd pull it out to put on the computer.

                          Thanks a bunch!
