Newb Question... Need Basic Maps

Hey all... I'm new to the scene here and I got a newb question...

I'm just looking for a download with all the basic maps. I downloaded winquake, joequake, and proquake, but some some reason I have no maps in my id1 folder...

When I connect at quake.ihoc.net I connect just fine, but it says that it cannot find maps/e2m2.bsp

Any help would be appreciated.

if you had the 2 pak files that came with quake (purchasing the CD) you'd have the maps in both paks. I explain how you can get the paks from the CD in various places in the forum, just do a search. If you don't have the paks then you'll have to find some other means to getting the maps. It's forbidden to post links to warez in this forum.

You CAN however download the BOMBER custom map pack and play at bomber which is perfectly legal Same goes for Rocket Arena.

i downloaded the bomber maps and have them in the following directory:

C:\Quake\id1\maps\fragtwn7.bsp

yet for some reason when i join the server it says:

"MODEL MAPS/FRAGTWN7.BSP NOT FOUND"

am i missing something here... ?

rdleifriaf, that message means you don't have the map.

Did you use the Bomber EZ Installer or unzip a bomber map pack in a place in to c:\quake\id1\maps or equivalent folder?

If you used the QuakeOne/Bomber EZ Installer it is virtually impossible to have a problem as it will not allow you to install it wrong, unless you try really really hard.

can you play any shareware maps? type in "map start" and see if that works.

Ah ... I didn't read carefully enough. You have to have registered Quake to play on pretty much every server except xctf.clan-rum.org

e2m2.bsp is a registered Quake map.

Come in the not so distant future we will have an alternative available, but that project isn't complete yet (but we've made great progress towards that).

Btw ... it isn't a matter of whether or not you have maps in the map folder. Registered Quake maps are in pak1.pak that resides in c:\quake\id1 if you have registered Quake.

This site is only 3 months old and we working on a free and legal alternative to allow multiplayer action on the servers, but that isn't done yet.

I've been to a few stores that had ULTIMATE QUAKE laying around. You could pick that up to get quake 1, and as a bonus have Q2 and Q3. But, if you already had those, well now you have two extra CD's! w00t!
