Hello,
Reading through several very interesting topics lately, I was wondering about:
Is it more difficult to create a single player or a mulitplayer map in general ?
From first view it looks like a good single player map is more difficult, as you have to place monsters and resupplies to the right spots and feel into players how they would approach to play a map. Also the different skill setting and therewith different model placement is tricky.
But also a good multiplayer map is difficult, as it must contain clever designed areas with big and narrow places. And of course (as only humans play this map) it must fullfill the individual likings of many players. Weapon, armor and quad placements seems to be essential and thereby difficult here.
It is a tough question, but in the end I think that a good single player map is more challenging, as smart placements of all models and the corresponding layout for melee and ranged enemy fights is really making the difference. And decides whether a map is good or bad.
The multiplayer part of Quake community seems to be extremely picky about dm maps. As far as I read there are only a very few maps which are played. And even other maps are great, the habit of most players and the fact of knowing every corner gives those new maps no chance...
My oppinion is of course driven by my personal way of playing (which is single player), but I am interested how others think about it. Maybe people who are playing both worlds equaly...
Kind regards,
Seven
