what is a link that I can use for autodownload for maps? the one in proquake does not appear to work for me and crashed everytime if tries to download from a website that does not exist.

This should enable the download feature and instruct ProQuake where get the map from. In practice this usually means that if you are playing on a server with non-id maps and the server changes to a map you haven't already got, then it will check the maps folder on the bigfoot.quake1.net website and assuming it finds the map you need it will download it to your local Quake\id1\maps\ folder and then reconnect you to the server so you can start playing it.Code:cl_web_download [COLOR="DarkOrange"]1[/COLOR] cl_web_download_url [COLOR="DarkOrange"]bigfoot.quake1.net/[/COLOR]
Some "Magic" servers such as bigfoot, NewYork, flanders and damage also offer a similar feature where if you type the following in console it will try and do the same thing...

MR. burns you cannot access that directly, yet just to be sure im not crazy, type in your bowser,
http://downloads.quake-1.com/maps/ultrav.bsp
you will be prompted to download that map, thus it is valid.
I use this in Qrack.
the /maps is appended within the engine, so only the root server is required.
@mono, make sure your engine detects, the last / in the url cvar if there then cool if not then add it. test to make sure ur not getting "http://downloads.quake-1.com/maps//" or no fore-slash at all...

Ahh gotcha, and yes it worked
As I think I mentioned in my original post, I suspected that this might be by design
. I only mentioned it in case it was an issue as you can browse to the maps folder on other repos.
