i have looked for updates of quake...
none work... id website doesn't work for downloads anymore..

That is fine then. IF you get the error it is fine because it will still play. Did those commands work to get your joystick working?

no...
it won't recognize the joystick.... i even tried putting the autoexec.cfg file in different places in the quake folder/files.....

Are you on a windows machine? If so download this!
Open the zip file and place the bat file in your quake folder and the autoexec.cfg in either your id1 folder or qw folder. Which ever you have or both.

The bat file will load ezquake-gl.exe with the right commandline stuff and the autoexec.cfg should load everything else you need in the console for you. Try that out lemme know.

the program loaded and the joystick moves the player... but now its looking at the sky....

Some of it will depend on the joystick you are using.. You can try these in the autoexec.cfg and see if they work better.

@Mindz! LOL! I knew a lot of Quake 2 guys that played with joysticks like that. They were wicked good too. :/ Dunno!
