I seen replacement models for at least the fiend and the shambler mentioned, but I've not found these available for download anywhere I've looked. Does anybody know where I can get shiny new player character models?

Download: http://web.newsguy.com/a_doom/fvf/FvFmonsterSkins.zip
Gunter made these, unzip them to either:
c:\quake\joequake\textures\models or c:\quake\qrack\textures\models
They work as supplied for Qrack and JoeQuake.
For DarkPlaces, unzip to c:\quake\id1\progs
You will need to rename them, so shambler_0.png becomes shambler.mdl_0.png
You should use the June 6, 2006 build of DarkPlaces which has PNG support if you use that engine.Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.
So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Uhm, new textures arent new models...

There is Randy's booth, he did a Darkplaces only shambler, and its DarkPlaces only cause its insanely detailed with all the different maps you could ever want to wrap around some polygons. It requires the modified progs.dat included because of the additional frames of animation.
IIRC MauveBib did the Fiend replacement model, though I could be wrong (Sajt or Lardarse should know).

Since that a custom progs.dat so it can't be used except on a vanilla single player map.
Most of the better maps, like Necro's stuff, Quoth, Zerstorer and such have a progs.dat.
Yeah, those skins aren't models per se, but there aren't really any replacement models and I'm assuming he meant something to update the look of the monsters.Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. Yes, but he specifically spoke of replacement models, not textures, and shammy here is the main example, but does require a progs.dat because he is much more animated. He didnt give a statement such as "I need them to make everything look better", just "where are they", besides, there are plenty of good sp maps out there, on top of all the id maps.
Who knows, maybe he just wants to see them in action (shammy requires real time lighting btw, hes a next-gen shambler).

I guess I didn't read the post carefully enough. You are right!Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

Actually neither of us can read, or he cant type! Though the subject says monster, the last sentence says player.
Who knows!
Regardless, shammy is a site to behold, if your machine can handle him (mine cant, hes too detailed - for a basis of comparison he runs fine on my brothers machine which can play Q4 and CoD2 just fine).

That new shambler also works in qrack, I loaded it without the progs.dat just by dragging the progs folder to ~\quake\qrack. Only thing weird was electricity he summons between hands.
See this thread on quakeworld.nu for a new player model being developed, though it's not done yet.
You must use the newest Qrack 1.60
Also, I suspect the shambler works in JoeQuake too, as I know the player md3 does.

It loads the md3 and associated progs.dat correctly, but it doesnt render the diffuse, normal, or gloss maps so all you get is the base base base skin, which looks kinda humorous.
He is after all made for real time lighting, so he basically is DP only. And looks awesome in that.
