  • Tweaking quake? Monitor refresh rate etc?

Ok I got this computer off my aunt and I wanted to get regcure because I figured that would make my computer run well but instead it just messed it up. Anyways is there anything I could use which would make it so that almost no programs are running while I quake so that it is ultra smooth?

Press CTRL-ALT-DEL, click Processes and do "End Task" on anything you are certain is just clutter (QuickTime, RealPlayer, etc. ... all those apps that decide they are going to install themselves in the background).

Video adapter/Monitor refresh setup varies from computer to computer; start -> settings -> control panel -> display -> settings tab, click advanced and look around in there.
