What may be happeneing is that the newer players wouldn't know of or don't really want to compare Q1 to what they are used to which may be Q2 or Q3.

If Q2 was supposed to be better than the first, why bother going back to play it when they would have a second installment? In other words, maybe these people started with Q2 and 3 and didn't see a reason to even consider trying the first one. So Q1 would actually get the shaft. (no pun intended)

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.

Internet polls often get rigged. Quake 3 has over 20 times the players as Quake 2 and so it I would have expected Quake 3 to be ahead by a large margin.

None of these kind of polls really matter, there are quite a few players that play Quake 3 and Quake 4 that have probably never tried the original or even Quake 2 to know what those games are. Quake 3 has basically been "THE Quake" since 1999/2000.

I go to PQ to see how long it takes before they read my news posts on inside3d, or quaddicted or here. More of an experiment than a legitimate viewing of the page.

I think PlanetQuake does a very solid job on Quake/QuakeWorld news. I don't really feel this was true a few years back, but that was then and this is now.

Most of Quake is "getting home, wanting to play and connecting to a server" and in that sense there are some players don't regularly visit any web site.

I would imagine that many of the single player-only users of Quake may visit sites even less often as quality new map releases are typically a few weeks in-between.
