I don't know if it's the exact version you are looking for but the work of Seven, WebAngel, talisa, etc should live on and I've made 2 pretty water mod downloads available on the Quake 1 File repo (link).

There's also a number of files over on Quaketastic.com that may be of use.

    I hope this helps.

I am forever getting "has reached download limit" on stuff I try to download. 9 times out of 10 when I am attempting a download it was uploaded back in the day.

like example , Frenzy_LOCS I believe did it to me once. There are many more I just always went elsewhere haha. o_O

I reported this to Sole a while ago I think though,so that's what it takes to get these things fixed. reporting just like you did. Goodjob!

We should try and replicate all these issues in real-time with him watching logs perhaps?

We could possibly even recreate the issue and make specific of the time it occured, that could possibly help. It might get wonky if you aren't in the usa. If you are not in the usa, if you could take your time that you have what time you tried to download + note your local time. Then go to a time converter like this one Time Zone Converter ? Time Difference Calculator and convert your time to whatever Solecord says suits him best.

I downloaded the VISed maps and Webangel's water modification and installed them in to the ID1 folder, I started the game and typed r_texture_dds_load 1 in to the console, the water is checkerboarded/missing graphic.

Is there something else I'm supposed to do? I'm using Quake v1.08 PAK files, I assume the VISed maps are also from the v1.08 game.

Nicholas Steel, I think its better if you put your questions directly in the respective threads. Then also others, who might have the same issues have a chance to find the solution without asking again. It helps to keep the overview and topics together.

            EDITED:
What I just wrote about webangels texture path was incorrect. Please ignore it.
Be sure that your config has this line: "r_texture_dds_load" "1"
I just tried webangels water version and it worked for me.

You can also try sevens dp pretty water pack v0.55. You can download it from here: http://www.quaketastic.com/files/sin....55__Seven.zip
His link in the opening post has been changed and leads into nowhere, but Mindf!3ldzX was so kind and posted the correct link here: http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-mod...tml#post154809

Unfortunately I do not have the 3rd dp pretty water variation from smith.
So, try the others first and then make your decision.

I am seeing that you starting to go deeper and deeper into the replacement jungle.
Lets see where it will take us.

By the way: Your .pak files are not v1.08, they are v1.06 hopefully. The update 1.06 modified the .pak, while 1.08 only added a new executable which you do not need, because you are using an advanced engine.

So, I notice that it's complaining about a TGA file yet the mod contains only DDS files and a shader file. Here is my is my folder structure.

Edit: Awesome, the forum software renders attached images incomprehensible.
Edit 2: If I place the Textures folder in a DDS folder the error goes away and so does the checkerboard graphics, however the water becomes 100% invisible.

My bad, it's just super clear, it's more like 98% transparent, you can't make it out from a distance.

                EDITED:
                About your screenshot:
Now that I see it better, please leave the texture folder structure as it was in the original .pke file. There must be a dds/ folder before the textres/.
Putting only the .pk3 file into your id1/ folder is enough. You do not need extract it.
                I edited my post above.

This line is essential to have in your config.cfg when you want to use the dp pretty water packs, as it enables the responsible shader key words:
                "r_water" "1"

While this line is important to have, especially for webangels version. Because she uses .dds format textures. You have to restart your engine, when enabling this:
                "r_texture_dds_load" "1"

We talked about your config issues yesterday, so there might still be some issues.
To double check, please restart your engine and type into your console:
                r_texture_dds_load
and see what it telly you. If it says: "1" ["0"] everything is fine.
If it says: "0" ["0"] you still have a config issues.
Same goes for r_water. It must be: "1" ["0"]

Please double check. And also try v0.55 just to be sure that it works as it has no .dds textures and therefore should work even without r_texture_dds_load enabled.

PS: But again, this discussion is in the wrong thread.

                  @Nicholas Steel

It contains all the appropriate textures it needs. The difference is, darkplaces will automatically look for dds equivalents first assuming you have r_texture_dds_load cvar active. In Darkplaces DDS is used as a replacement texture rather than regular texture formats like tga, png, etc. You can even have tga's saved as DDS with r_texture_dds_save which will save a copy of any loaded tga's into a DDS folder in id1. DDS is best used for its compression. I theory you can get better load times instead of using other texture formats.

Yes, please read my post above about the:
                    "r_water" "1"

That is what you still need to enable. Then you have reached your goal

There we go! Now it is working great. It would be nice if the mod authors could mention in their Readme files the required parameters to get their mods working instead of assuming the user is well versed in the modding of the game. For example, WebAngel only mentions enabling the r_texture_dds_load parameter and not the r_water parameter.

Anyways, thanks for the help, it's appreciated and uh, if a moderator would move these posts to the appropriate thread then that is okay by me. I stuck with this thread because I just didn't want to continue an existing conversation in a 2nd location. In the future I'll try to post in a more correct place to begin with.
