  • IRONFOX sound compilation

As a fan of good old shooters by Id i decided to combine and release this beautiful sound replacement compilation.

I think...ammo pick up sound is the best that can be used (Q2 sound i found before isn't so marvelous)

    Credits go to:
    Quake 2
    Quake 3 Arena
    Quake 4
    Heretic
    HeXen
    HeXen II

    Have fun

    IRONFOX (aka Priest777)

if as your credits-list would suggest your pack has sounds taken from all those games you cant just release that pack.
those sounds are still copyrighted by ID software

its fine to make a pack like that for personal use if you own all the games,
but you cant just distribute them freely in a pack cuz of copyright
        .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
        > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread

owww...as far as i know all sound packs found by me on QuakeOne are mostly released as a PACKS (no matter imroved files with Heretic stuff or mindgrids), and i have never seen such copyright thing or any discussions. Some of them were compilated and presented by Seven himself, so..that's damn strange...

Please point out any sound packs with proprietary licenses. They cannot just be put on the internet, no matter if Seven or anyone else does it. You can PM me about this. I'm not a site admin, so I have a bad idea about what files are hosted here. Sounds like it's time to take a look and talk about it internally. The games listed above are still sold and we can't just upload assets from them unless where permitted by license.

Sounds are a particularly problematic area because they are usually licensed by the game developer from some sort of commercial sound library, thus the game developer does not even own them or have the power to allow anyone to use the sounds in mods etc.

It's slightly different with custom maps etc since eg Quake's license expressly allows those.

convert them to a lossy format and then back (from lossy) to wav. Voila, not the same sound anymore. yes?

I mean, how far can they really go on sound effects with a license? If I completely strip some frequency out of a sound, it is no longer the same sound. This may fall under derivative works, though.

There was nothing really in that "compilation" worth anything
Name's damage_inc, and killing is my business. Don't worry though, it's nothing personal! Oh wait... maybe it is

I'll honestly never understand websites like this and their infatuation with preventing the spread of "warez." If it's not hosted on the site's servers, then how is the site responsible? I mean, from a morality standpoint, it's essentially abandonware, and even though ID is still around, nobody important would be getting the money. ZeniMax is a terrible corporation, and I don't want to give them any of my shekels. Maybe I'm thinking about this too hard, as it's not really an important issue to begin with. And before anyone asks, I'll have you know that my copy of Quake is legal!

The company that hosts the web site server has a policy about it, as most service providers do.

I guess I'm the only one who still runs servers out of his bedroom. Welcome to the new age.
