  • Help!

    Hello!
I'm going to explain what I have to do.
My friend at school is going to do an exam about videogame, so I told her about Quake, and since we're going to do nothing next week, we're going to play Quake on her laptop, but with different soundtrack, just for fun.

So, the problem is, I just took my Quake CD but I don't see the .pak files that 2 guys said are needed in this http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-hel...ndows-7-a.html thread.

I'm going to put a Quake installation on my CD, already with the soundtrack I want to put (that is various metal songs chosen by me), so I can go to school, install the game in the laptop, and so we can play with metal rocking in our ears!

    What should I do?
Where should I put the tracks and what should I put in CD?

I'm planning to play with WinQuake since is the most loyal to the original look, but I really don't know what to do, since the original CD is no more usable because it's for MS-DOS, and I can't realize how to put a WinQuake setup on the CD + my own soundtrack.

Some tech master that can help me?
    Please?

    Thanks

if you want to play quake with an as authentic as possible look,
check out either proquake or Qrack, which are both linked on the right of the main-page.

or fitzquake mark V is also a good authentic quake-engine

    .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
    > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread

Nah man I'm going to use WinQuake, but probably you didn't understand my problem.
I want to install Quake on Windows 7, putting music that I choose as soundtrack.

Seriously I knew already how to do this, but I Googled it for fun and found the answer many times with in the 1st few hits. The installer on the original Quake CD is dos based so you need to use dos to run it to extract the files. You may also use Dosbox to do it. Then you can put the pak0 and pak1 files into whatever quake engine you want. Winquake is crap on modern systems, but do as you wish.

it can AND WILL cause problems, running the original win-quake on a modern OS

and there is no reason to ever use the original winquake executable,
as there are lots of great updated engines which are made to work on modern OS,
several of which maintain the original software look which you are
            .

If you're simply trying to keep the game looking old school, WinQuake really is not a good engine anymore. ProQuake, FitzQuake, Quakespasm...hell, even FTE has a classic rendering option. You will probably be back asking more questions about problems you encounter with WinQuake.

As far as a soundtrack, all you gotta do is make your own CD soundtrack and put it in the drive when you play Quake. When music is played on Quake, it simply calls up the track number. It has no idea if it is actually playing standard Quake music or an ACDC album. Lol.
