Ok I was using a radion 9700 but then my quake froze my whole computer and other games too so I switched to a gforce3 and guess what... still does it. I dont think god wants me to play quake anymore to be honest. Any advice?

Well its obviously not your videocard, and thus... is basically anything else on your machine short of your monitor. Got any more details than that ?

Yes ... use WinProQuake instead of GL until you can figure it out.Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.
So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

If everything's freezing it may mean you're processor is bad. I reccomend taking your computer out to the back of the shed and shoot it with a double barrel, watch the sucker fly (except for the hard drive, you need that lolz).
I would start saving for a new machine. Alsokeep the video card, and any "drives" you may have (such as a dvd burner, dvd player, cd burner, cd player, floppy disk, super disk, and any additional plugins I.E. additional usb ports).e|------------------------0---------------

While it's true that his problems may be related to unstable hardware (cpu memory mb), if this is the case it sounds like it's only seen when his computer is doing something more intensive (games). WinProQuake takes about as much cpu as browsing around in XP, so it would be smart to just use that till he figures out what's up.

16:03:30 <gb> the fact that only playtesting tells me that probably means that my mind is a sieve
