  • Sujoy interview

What was it that you liked about the game?

The graphics stunned me for a long time, but the thing that kept me coming back for more was being able to play people that were not necessarily in the same room. That was a huge thing for me. I was in my own little world for Doom 2 only playing guys from my college. Eventually they didn't want to play me anymore because I was getting better than them. When I was able to play other people outside of the college it blew my mind

I read that. Nice job on getting an interview with him.

I wasn't around back in the old days, I admit that I don't really know who he was/is. From the interview and other things I read, maybe he ended up organizing something like QuakeCon??

I read about a month ago Thresh sold some company he started or was involved in for $100 million back a few years ago, it's amazing how a lot of people in the gaming industry got their start in Quake back in the early days.

Sujoy is an oldschool Quake celebrity. He was a top-teir player. He wrote Quake stories. He invented a way to rocket jump higher out of liquids, which let players eg: get out of DM4 lava before burning to death. He was flabergasted when he saw Sectopod do the first bunnyhops in competition Quake. He established ESReality. He did a lot of things, here's some relevant links:

I did some Googling on Sujoy after I posted the above. Yeah, I had heard about the DM4 Rocket Jump out of lava somewhere else and how that was unbelievably cool at the time.

I'll check out those links. The early days of Quake had to be some very wild times, but I wasn't really playing Quake back then
