  • Did you beat single player?

Since Magn3tar brought it up, how many of you still haven't beaten single player?

I was going to make a poll before but I was afraid I would be the only one. Once I discovered multiplayer (and mods), there was no going back to single player!

I played it in hard mode the first time I actually wanted to go through all the episodes. After that, I'd try to find all the secrets. People in my school played as well so we'd help eachother out in secrets. I remember now that I found the quad in Ziggurat by slipping in the lava and noticing the 2 entrances when I was dead

I learned about Nightmare mode shortly after but found it too easy. Monsters stand still which makes them easier targets.

      well, except for the fiend

I think I "godmoded" thru single player in 1996. I was a keyboarder at the time and really couldn't deal with the monsters.

Ironically, I think I somehow screwed it up because I "discovered" the final start map with the tunnel to the end, so back then I think I did the 4 episodes, but didn't save the games and continue so I never had a single game with "all 4 episodes completed" to get to the end.

Since then, I've played thru Quake from start to finish a few different times. Only takes about an hour if you've played Quake for several years.

I never beat single player. I started playing the game singleplayer and after the first episode I started playing multiplayer and never looked back.

I've beaten it on easy and normal, but never in 1 session.

16:03:30 <gb> the fact that only playtesting tells me that probably means that my mind is a sieve

I've been doing the single player campaign since right after I got it (earlier this week from a friend). I'm playing on hard mode and am on the last episode.....

We did that in school too. I remember one guy having to draw out a secret location so I could figure out how to get to it. We must've been so dorky sounding, in comparision I think kids are idiots who lay out Pokemon trading card game tatics in public. "Psyco-duck rules!"

Anyone else just go around for hours hitting all the walls with your axe just so you could tell your friends "I found a secret!"?

Yep, I've beat singleplayer like 20+ time when I was 6 and 7 and I first got quake in 96. I always was able to run through all of the quake levels in my head. Makes a good base for a multiplayer player eh? When scourge of armagon and dissolution of eternity came out, I beat both of those 10+ times. After that I was looking around on the internet for quake practice bots, and found the BGbot (which totally sucked), I played against that and it was a great experience, actually being able to see another player in the quake realm. Then I found the Reaperbot, and eventully the Omicron bot (which still is the BEST bot in my opinion). Shortly after that, I was looking around for quake servers, and connected to my first server (and the one I liked the most back in the day) - CA.MTOWN.COM (a ctf server)...

                        No.

Lost interest in episode 4. I still don't like it. Stuff like "The Pain Maze" is so incredibly random, it makes me sick ;-)

I play ep 1-3 regularly though, without saving.

Episode 4 is my fav. It has kind of a mystic feeling.

hehe. goes to show you how different people like different things...

maybe the time of ep. 4 will come one day. I understand it's hugely popular in Runequake.

I'm starting to like Hell's Atrium, too. It's different for sure.

Although I voted Episode 2 to be my favorite, "The Elder God Shrine" in Episode 4 is still by far my favorite level.
