Several months ago, the X-Men Total Conversion for Quake was made free and GPL'd.
This is old news to some of us, but not if you weren't aware of it.
The characters actually look like the following and it doesn't use the Quake palette. The animation of the characters is great.
The maps that I have seen look great. The gameplay is not as good as the artwork. Nevertheless, it's a free download.
