  • What's your favorite mod?

Here's a simple thread/poll where you can vote and explain why you like playing on your favorite mod. I got this list from the SERVERS section in quakeone. There were some mods I've never even heard of, such as HeadHunters and Total Destruction II.

I've also had to sacrifice space since the max amount of options is 10. Therefor, any mods that were similar to Rune Quake were counted as one option. I'm also listing mods in general, not unique ones like CA+, CAx, DM+ etc, there's just not enough room on the poll for that. Anyways, make a vote and voice your opinion if you want.

    -- my opinion

CA is my favorite mod to play in the quake servers. It's team oriented and allows you to rocket jump/etc without losing health. CA+ > CAx servers because of the cheatfree plus the CA community is awesome.

If you were to ask what my favorite mod was a year ago, I'd say no mod makes quake any better. I'm a LAN Quaker and always will be. I'm not a fan of having 120 ping when 30 ping players rape me with shaft. LAN Quake Deathmatch beats all mods. CA is just a nice substitution for it

I chose RuneQuake, because it's a mod I played a long time ago (I know I was playing it back in 1999) while it was called "Artifact Quake". I like RQ for a few reasons - I think the randomness of the runes you get and which ones you work the best with makes RQ a fun and interesting mod, where you're not just doing the same thing but you have different strategies depending on the runes you find.

I also like the level of respect and fun that RQ seems to offer. Some other mods I've played have regular players who constantly insult each other, and I just can't have fun when that's going on.

Youve never heard of Headhunters O_O ?!?!
      *dies*

Oi vey... I voted other simply because most of the mods featured here were rather similar... Painkeep, Team Fortress, Headhunters as stated earlier... Zerstorer... so much greatness was left out. It would be much better to just have people share their favorite mods in general... I myself loved Get Rich Quake.

        don't die! please!

The reason I don't know a lot of mods is because I played LAN then left quake then came back to quake and played on the current modded servers. I know I missed a lot.

I thought you voted OTHER because you wanted to vote for DP Mod

Headhunters is still one of my favorite mods, but there are few servers that run it decently. I know IHOC has one, but I lag like hell on there, and also it only holds about 6 players which really sucks - HH is best with a lot of people.

I voted Slide. Although today I love RA and CA equally, Slide takes me back to when we still had TLTQ, loads of flame wars, loads of movies, and making movies with DZ hehe. I wish we could get a Slide game going.

I'm very surprised that Slide got a vote. I was feeling iffy about putting that option there.

              I enjoy Qskateboard =D

CTF. Zoids game was fun. To this day I'm probably the only one that still likes the slow grapple. Old habits are hard to break.

I put Quake away for a few years and then I come back to find that lots have changed. The game is much faster than it used to be, but more customizations made Quake what it is today and people are still playing.

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.

Nope, I like slow grapple. I can understand it's purpose to let you go to places without having to use extensive rocketjumping. But to make hook 100% fast transportation is stupid. Trinicom was probably the first ctf server I joined. that hook was dead slow and I liked it.

I'm pondering if CTF without hook would be a cool mod =D

What I used to do on maps like CTF1, was after getting the flag, I would run down the stairs and hook a corner. Just as I turn the corner, I'd use the hook and duck back around the corner until it hit the other side, then I'd fly across the room to the home base.

I even liked when the other team had the flag and tried to go through the water to their base only to get electrocuted.

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.

what's this ping you speak of?

I have more than 200 as soon as there are four or five people on the server. *sigh* I need to get DSL and a modern computer.

Somehow I'm not ready to shell out just to play online, and what's more, I love my antique hardware. I'm a sucker for old computers. They have soul. They're just as oldschool as I am.

I'm more inclined to buy a Voodoo for my little 233 MMX and play Quake like it was meant to be :-)

Wait, then I would have to install DOS...

We should rent a house somewhere and have a Quake lan party :-)

Rocketarena is my favorite. The different maps make it fun to play and very strategic IMO. Fun to figure out the opponent's combat style and adapt to it...

Future versus Fantasy owns all the others. Very fun, with a lot of nice classes to pick. There is also a zombie that holds a grenade on his hands there! Very, very fun,I never saw anyhting better on QuakeOne.

16:03:30 <gb> the fact that only playtesting tells me that probably means that my mind is a sieve

CTF and TF was so addictive, Also PainKeep, I loved the ability to set traps and follow the guys screaming blood trail...hehehe and those turrets that would spray and not stay...nice short term damage to opponents
