Why shell out $40 to play what I am already playing.

It doesn't seem like the new FPS games have any new ideas. You end up playing the same maps you were already playing with different textures.

edit = I thought I mentioned this, but I guess not. I saw these at QW.nu and thought it was too ironic to not share.

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Quake4 is definitely a good game, I know that I enjoyed it. Not exactally what I'd like to call canonical, but what in the Quake "universe" is? A great followup to quake 2, if not a change in genre (FPS-Horror.)

I'll eventually end up getting Quake 4, Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 for the single player experience.

But I always find it funny that every FPS game always ends up having some version of original Quake maps for deathmatch.

Although not entirely a true statement, almost every good map layout for an FPS has already been made. There just aren't that many winning combinations you can do for a deathmatch map.

(Which is why the old ones keep coming up again and again, and why I feel many FPS games from a deathmatch aspect ... well it's a little bit of a tired genre.)

But of course, a two level square with some ajoining hallways makes for a very satisfying deathmatch, if not rather monotonous at times. Much like the ever spiteful Racing game genre, the only even slightly tolerable track is the simple one.

Took me a while to squint and look at it, then I said, "HEY, IT'S CLAUSTROPHOBOPOLIS!!"

Yeah, with all the weird textures it doesn't look like dm2. You just haev to look at the layout.
I think all Q4 multiplayer is is just a q3 clone with spiced up graphics...

colored lighting looks as ugly as ever.

I find the textures distracting, and the weapon models look like something from The Fifth Element. It's not dark enough, either.

for example in the second and third shots, where's all the light coming from? those corridors should be almost pitch-black.

So how much would you say Q4 is worth? (to you money-wise)

I've seen the screenshots and gameplay demo's. I can't say that I'm greatly impressed.

                  *edit*
                  Clarification

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.

It's probably worth the 19,95 euros they charge for it here. (if it wasn't teh german version)

I'd buy the English version that contains Q2 and mission packs for that price immediately, if it hadn't mysteriously disappeared from stores.

I'd even buy that for 29,99. But no more.

I'd not buy the german version without Q2, not even for 10 euros.

You guys need to stop your bitching. This is a DM MAP, it shows nothing of the quality of the single player scenario (which is the focus of the game).

Bank! Since you own the game, could you clarify that all the traps in the quake4 version of dm2 are still operational after 10 years of usage?
