  • r_drawflame: +10 fps

I noticed r_drawflame 0 gives me between 8 and 20 more fps in software joequake.

I measured in many places through episode 1 and 2. The start of e2m2 for example goes from 24 fps to 42 (timerefresh value.)

Timerefresh values are often much lower than what show_fps thinks, because the latter only knows your FOV. Timerefresh does a whole 360 degree turn.

I'd never have thought that those flames are such FPS hogs. You know how many of them are in typical id maps?

I think that's not the point. I found this an interesting phenomenon, that's all. Technically I mean.

ok ok, ON TOPIC: find it wierd you would get more FPS. There ARE no flames in E2M1, at all.

          Ph34r my l3goquake!

          :-)

foquer, you misread. e2m2, not e2m1.

Switching off the flames makes turning and general movement much smoother. dm6 is one of the maps that benefit, it has lots of them.

Of course if you have steady 77 fps anyway, keep enjoying your flames.

Eventually I will. But I love my old laptop so much, I would have him implanted if I could.

I'd be the most oldschool Borg ever :-)

I could wear a Pentium sticker on my cheek :-D

This might be true, though are you talking about r_drawflame with old models, or
using QMB particles? It's true, the old models do cause fps suffering, albeit so do the particle flames. If you really like flames, in qrack i added a command r_animate_entity, which turns off the animation of the flame model that does save about 5 of those lost 10 fps with the normal flame models on. Though, particle tourches look alot better, I do also turn off all tourch models when i play online

but then hey r_drawflame was created to save FPS!

r00k, when I get a new machine, I'll be playing qrack :-) it looks dope and seems close enough to what I need.
