  • IRC and Quake

o.k quake comunity is divided in many irc net servers i use Quakenet but a lot of quakers use anynet why not all change to Quakenet? Quake is the legal adress of quakers... eheh #terrafusion for exemple change all people from anynet to quakenet and the get more people and feedback on the channel!

    what do u guys think???

I'm going to point the IRC chat page on this site to quakenet #quake1 just haven't got around to it yet. #quake1 seems to be an established channel already. We'll make some sort of news posting and announcement (and perhaps an ad banner to go somewhere on the site) to promote the IRC chan.

Well its a matter of getting everyone to agree to move to Quakenet

And #qc and #darkplaces are hardly small channels... also there are many other channels related to development there, some public, some private, and offshoots in the community.

I hung around #quake1 on quakenet last night and the only activity was the serverbot, and there were VERY few people present, the only ones I recognized were Lardarse and Cheapy, whom I can contact in #qc or #darkplaces

Not opposing the channel, just saying that there are a lot of people in #qc and #darkplaces as well so it would be a rather big deal to move.

yeah, I always used to go to #terrafusion when I went on IRC alot and was making Quake maps. The people wouldn't help me very much though. So I pretty much gave up on Quake mapping.

What is IRC and where can I buy one?

Ok, I'm kidding. I used to chat with IEEE 802.11 on #qc but mostly I'd rather play Quake than talk about Quake

Email, private messages, AIM, Yahoo IM, MSN, phone, cell phone, IRC, text messaging, my 4 other email addresses, the answering machine, the mail box ... damn it's too much work. Communication is it's own hobby now and I think it takes me at least 15 minutes to check everything.

Trillian is pretty cool. I've also tried GAIM.

I don't like how you can't adjust the font in GAIM and I have my monitor set at high resolution. I can't remember if GAIM does IRC, I don't think it does.

They ought to build IRC capability into FireFox like they did with Mozilla, so you don't have to download Mirc, I hate it when 75 applications are running in the background

I have tried GAIM too, I did not like it too much either. There were many things that you could not do that you could do in AIM. I used to use MIRC for downloading music files until I founded LimeWire, a filesharing thingie that you can download music, games, and almost anything. Alot of the programs have viruses, though, so I mainly just use it for downloading music. The majority of all of my music has come from LimeWire.

There is no greater map expert in all of Quake than Trinca. It isn't even close.

#terrafusion can be a rough place to ask for help, openly. I find it is better to befriend someone and ask them in a pm. Unless the room is explicitly there for the sake of helping others (a sense I have never had from the channel) there is already existing conversation which your queries could be perceived as "interrupting".

I myself have 2 emails, deadaim, icq, googletalk, mirc (registered) and a cellphone... I am easy to contact I would say, and dont find it to really be a hinderance honestly.

I agree with Baker. Takes me at least 30 minutes to cover all the emails, txt msgs, Instant msgs and PM's at god knows how many boards.. I used to need Alice to clean my house.. Now I need her to clean my msgs!! ; Dumped IRC a long time ago. Phish was my choice of IRC programs at the time.. Think that was it.

I would never be able to make great quake maps anyway. If I still have that map that I made laying around, you can try it if you want, Trinca. Beware, it lowers your FPS greatly...

If you wanna try it, give me your e-mail address...

I just played my map agaiN! WOW! I do not know what the hell happened, but its not choppy AT ALL anymore! Maybe its because I am using GLPRO. Oh and by the way, the textures are screwed up because I have no clue how to position them right. No one in IRC would help me.
