FPS setting?

Quick question,
Whats the max fps setting in GLQuake, I have upgraded my cable speed to excelerated and now when I play I see the phone line icon now....so I'm thinking and maybe I'm wrong that I need to change that setting?

FPS doesnt really rely on connection speed, it more has to do with your video card.

Depending on the quality of your card, the FPS will be adjusted accordingly.

Thanks for the reply but why did it all the sudden change right after I rebooted after upgrading my modem speed?
My card rocks so I know theres no problem there....

Because internet play is different than single play. If your connection sucks, of course your fps will IN MULTIPLAYER. And conversely of course.

I know about the connection speeds and what not, it's not that...I just upgraded and it's supposed to be the best they have for game play....check download speeds after and it doubled.....your not answering my question but thanks for your help.
Someone must know what the max setting is, I know your suppose to set it to what your fps's are playing but I still get the icon now when I never did just before the upgrade....EzJacK

Hey EZJack, what client are you using? Is it ProQuake or something else? (ProQuake is glpro.exe) If you aren't sure, just post the .exe name.

I think I know what is going on, but the instructions depend on which client you are using. GLQuake does not have any FPS settings whatsoever, but other engines like ProQuake, QRack, JoeQuake do but they are different.

If you are using GLQuake, you should discontinue using that and upgrade to at least ProQuake (download link), GLQuake has a number of issues (poor quality aim, some bad internet connectivity issues, and other problems.)

/EZJack has been playing Quake at least as long I have, heh He's one of the earliest players I remember playing against at DarkZone.

EZJack, try max_fps 120 and see what happens. I think that will solve your problem.

/I've seen this problem SEVERAL times with that engine and it always fixes it. That engine lags itself if you don't cap the FPS in a lot of situations.

Hey Baker, Thanks for helping me out....I've tried 122 but still get the ugly or evil icon. If I'm on the right track I'll figure it out, just pisses me off as I was pumped when I upgraded my connection and got this shit.....I'm open to ideas if anyone one else has some thoughts?

I'd try max_fps 60 and keep an eye on your ping.

EZJack ... truth be told, you should ditch glxpro+ as it is not a very good client at all (almost no one uses that engine anymore). XQuake is real flakey and it doesn't have a broadband fix either like ProQuake, Qrack/JoeQuake and DarkPlaces.

Mindz, Phenom (formerly wSx Rook), Yugo and almost every last CA player use ProQuake and it is solid as a rock. If you want something fancier than ProQuake, use Qrack (http://www.quakeone.com/qrack) which is used by a number of players (Sole, Yellow, Hydro, etc.) But since you just want to get up and running, I'd recommend doing ProQuake for now and you want to try something new then try out Qrack after you get fixed up.

Add: EZJack, this sounds like one of the typical XQuake issues, which does not usually affect playing on IHOC because IHOC caps the framerate (other servers don't do this) which prevents the problem you describe.

If you still get the issue with ProQuake, and I think that's really unlikely, do a speed test at DSLReports http://www.dslreports.com/tools to make sure your connection is working right.

Hey thanks for the info Baker, I'm one step ahead of ya so far as I have already downloaded ProQuake but was chicken shit of trying something new!
I checked my download speeds already and I doubled my speed when I switched to the faster connection so I know I'm good there dude, so with this new download it's basic just click away or is there something I should know in advance? Pretty much, no one ever has trouble with ProQuake. I can't even remember the last time someone asked a ProQuake question, yet it's been downloaded about 700 times since June 4 (getting close to 3 months ago).
