Rune Quake + Bots

The Rune Quake community seems to have a fairly high frequency of bots, something not seen elsewhere.

Why does Rune Quake have such a high frequency of bots?

Some theories:

Theory 1: Rune Quake has the widest, oldest, deepest player base.

Theory 2: Non-Rune Quake mods like CA/CTF/DM attract higher skilled players.

Theory 3: Rune Quake runs on non-cheat-free servers, making it easy to bot, whereas CA and DM tend to run on cheat-free servers, heavily discouraging cheating.

Theory 4: Rune Quake attracts a broader range of players, so the combination of lower skilled players and higher skilled players playing on the same server fuels bot accusations.

I myself find some of the bot accusations I've heard on Shmack simply mind-boggling. I like playing Rune Quake, but sometimes I do get annoyed by the amazingly boneheaded cheat accusations made while playing.

Some of those bot accusers need to play some Clan Arena on cheat-free servers to see that having solid rocket/lightning gun aim is not only within human capabilities, but very easy to do with enough practice.

Lefty once recommended some advice on increasing Quake skills back a few years ago: "Don't play only Rune Quake, play on other servers too." (maybe not word for word correct, but that was excellent advice from Lefty and I listened to it.)

People who constantly go to Shmack yet bitch about bots are the same as Counter Strike players that have been playing the game for years but won't stop bitching about how the game sucks.

my two cents are, just ignore them. they arent going to stop their accusations, not now, not ever. their ego has given them to believe that they are among the best of the best players there are, and anyone who is better than them is obviously cheating. however, to those who get accused like this, doesnt it just make it that much more fun to destroy these dorks?

just let it go. they wont ever stop what theyre doing, but they never cause any harm.


by the way, my annalysis has given me this. those who tend to accuse people of botting or hacking religiously also CAMP religiously, so these players were just really really gay players to begin with.

Actually, I started this thread to somewhat complain about the small pool of well-concealed bot users that play at Shmack.

Slot banned a botter who revealed his method and in retrospect, I think I've played Rocket Arena against 2 of these botters and I there is a 3rd player that I believe I played against on another.

The 2 players I played at Rocket Arena that, in retrospect, I believe were using a bot both left the server after I blew them away, hehe So I guess the bot wasn't helping them much, which is why I didn't notice at the time -- but I think there was a game that I lost to one of those clowns at Rocket Arena, but I was warming up.

These newbies that have the ridiculous idea that a bot will somehow give them the kind of game that an experienced player has is sad.

The get a bot, use it and still lose. Perhaps this is why the bot accusers, which I believe are often the most likely bot users, get so mad.

A bot doesn't confer tactics, doesn't give rocket jumping skills or hook skills and certainly doesn't make any of these players dodge better or give better map control.
