I bet thats awesome if you cant download Darkplaces and like other artists ruining the art design of Quake. Fucking blah.

I think that screenshot looks very nice. I think the things that give Quake it's soul (QuakeC, open source, easy mapping tools) would be difficult to not miss even in something resembling an improved graphics non-Quake.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

I agree with the premise. However, the pioneering of the work can lead to someone else adding to it with something more faithful, then someone else going even further.

All things that could be addressed with time and wide spread use of the engine as a platform.

I maybe just wishing, but I can see one day playing through E1 on the D3 engine, faithful in every respect except the jaw-dropping graphics.

I'd like to see something like that. I hope they finish the project, I think it would be a lot of work ... but maybe not so much.

I believe heXum is only doing the one map, which is great because that dramatically increases the chances of it getting finished.

You are aware of Quake10Year right?

Granted it has fewer plans to be faithful as it is a reinterpretation so to speak... but graphically it takes about 30 shits all over Doom3 - and those involved are industry professionals working in their spare time. But it will be re-exploring Quake only much much much more graphically impressive.

Im pretty sure HeXum could take pretty much all of his content right now, repackage it and load it in Darkplaces, it would look just as good and potentially run faster. To me, this is just truncating Quake for the sake of boasting what sounds like an advancement even though its just a strafe to the left and behind an obfuscated future of virtual machines and dlls rather than a scripting engine and a wonderful back catalogue of maps and mods.
