    Hey guys
I was having a probelm and hope someone can help.
I have the Quake shareware disk and none of the mods will work with it, just keep telling me I need the registered version. I registerd it WAY back when I first bought it, and have since lost my code. I don't feel like buying another one and since quake is free-ware-ish...
Is there anyting I can do? can someone help me out?
I just want to do single-player with the cool ass mods
    Thanks!

The only difference between Shareware Quake and Registered Quake is one ~32 Mb file called PAK1.PAK in your /ID1 directory.

Try to hunt down an Original Quake 1 CD from an old software store and you'll be good to go. BTW, the Quake registration program on the Shareware CD does not work on Windows XP so you would have to load it up on Win9x to install it anyways.

Other than that you are out of luck, because PAK1.PAK is still copyrighted by ID Software and it would be piracy to post it on a public website, ftp, etc.

    Good luck!
