The Setup

I've known how to make Quake AVI movies for a long time, as have some members of the community, but I guess in the past the interest level wasn't there, at least for me.

The biggest problem has always been storage space as they tend to be HUGE and most of them were of limited interest to many ppl.

But YouTube and Google Video plus the ability to embed the videos into both forum posts and news posts and value of demostrating what something is or showing what something is like -- I don't know, but that changes things in my mind.

It used to be you had to download codecs and jump through a lot of hoops to watch videos and it took 30 minutes to download one and then 90% of the time, it was not worth the effort.

I remember those days.. Now its just double/single-click and the video plays, sometimes in DVD Quality

Its like going from cassettes to CD!

3 years ago, if you made a movie, you would have to tell everyone what codec to get and where to download it and then downloading the movie itself was a pain. Let alone finding a place to host it.

Now we can just use Google or YouTube's bandwidth

And a couple of years ago, if you did something like embed a flash movie, dialup users would hate your guts because some 1.5 MB thing was in a web page.

YouTube and the derivative video services are brilliant. What a difference that makes.

Yea, to bad it was my idea to begin with I invited Google over to my house one day while i was working on a video posting website and I was robbed the next day. It reminded me of the Bill Gates/Steve Job situation. Only I'm poor unlike Steve Jobs

I personally consider VDM lacking features.


I installed Fraps Shareware, then googled myself a *cough* free version , and come to find out,if you install the Shareware version, and EVEN BUY the Full Version , you are basically fucked.It will not open at all after this I spent like 2-3 nights in a row attempting to figure out why, poking around inside my registry deleting keys,changing values,and in the end couldnt figure it out.I prolly will never make another video until Fraps author gets off his sorry fucking ass and develops a method for even legitemit owners of his software to fix this problem.I'm willing to buy the software to fix the problem, but in my opinion its a waste of time until he addresses the problem.
