    Dredd Server Update

Things are really starting to take shape at the Dredd Server.

For the 5th night in the last 8 days, Dredd maxxed out at 10 players for a while around midnight and remained busy for probably a 2 stretch.

During much of the time that Dredd had 8-10 players, Rage usually had about 9-12 players so the server is generating interest in players playing it, as opposed to just draining players from somewhere else.

One thing that was different about last night is that unlike all previous occasions, no one went to other servers (Rage, Shmack) to recruit players. Players just showed up.

    Popular Maps

Since more maps have been added to the map rotation, a few new maps have been given the "two thumbs up" by players and a couple maps have been given the thumbs down.

    Very Well Received Maps

Gendm1 - 8 to 10 players - almost universally liked by everyone who has played it. It got played 4 times in a row by demand on the weekend. It is very easy to move around undetected on this map: the question IS --> does anyone on the other team realize where you are! If they do, you are in deep **** because you will be pinned down.

EFDM10 - Ideal for 6 players or less; more would be crowded. Excellent map for smaller games.

CHESDM1 - This map is like a more spacious UltraV and seems to work for any number of players without being too crowded or too big.

GMDM1 - Known as the "slime" map. You will HATE it the first time you play it. Then the 2nd time, you'll love it. Don't fall in the slime -- you won't be killed by slime -- players know to start raining a barrage of rockets into the slime if they hear you fall in.

REINC5 - The "Void" Space Map. Looks simple enough at first and unchallenging. Play it 3 times and you will realize how truly intense the map is, it has a couple of teleporters and windtunnels. Ironically, this makes the top of the map a very dangerous place to be, which is not obvious at first.

ASYLUM - Must have at least 8 players, more = better. This map has only been tried once, with 10 players -- and it was very exciting to play.

JRDM1 - The QJ Clan loves this map. Somehow I always get shot from behind on this map. Very difficult to defend yourself.

    CAx Issues

We are aware of 2 CAx issues that cause the server to, in the first case, crash (it is related to a specific map and that can be fixed, I think Rook has already fixed it in the next version).

The second case happens rarely and the server doesn't crash, but needs restarted.

Fortunately, both of these problems are rare, but unforunately this does mean the server does require a little bit of administration periodically.

Hopefully the unsolved issue from above will be figured out, until then we'll just have to restart it in the rare circumstances that it occurs (I've never seen that problem happen firsthand yet.)

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

hahaha, ironically enough for QJ, JRDM1 is one of the most aggressive maps in the rotation. Constant battles.

EFDM10 is orgasmic and extremely fun in a small game

I had a tough time on ASYLUM, but if I get to play it again I may change my mind on what I think of it.

CHESDM1 is my favorite of the new maps.

I'm gonna do a re-QBSPing of the entities on that map to add 1 in. I haven't taken the time to do that yet, though.

I redid the entities in klzvob so that the map doesn't cause the server to crash due to the lack of an intermission camera -- so that's fixed on the server now.

One less thing to trouble you with

It looks like a new version of CAx was updated on the server within the last week and the server is running great, I haven't noticed anything else and it doesn't seem to get stuck at intermission anymore if everyone leaves (you can click or jump or whatnot and it goes to the next map).

                    Excellent!
This version on Dredd is the newest CAx, I'll soon update RAGE with this version, minus the rotation code. I just want'ed to be sure that Dredd's features work fully before i subject RAge to any unessicary bugs.
This will include the MVP per round and MVP per match feature. and a few other tweaks. Bam's cc code works flawless and will be included in this update also. So anyone who needs feature requests, now is the time...!

ps. Frenzy, you shouldnt wear an [iov] nametag its a long gone clan, *jk ill unban you for muting me when i was smacking you with my trout...

                      Heheh -- funny stuff

                      Rook, I've heard 3 requests/ideas -- really 4:

                      1. ProQrack server engine: don't let "unconnected"-named players speak to spam the server after they get banned for something.

                      2. Auto-disconnect (kick) AFK players after an extended period of time.

                      3. Have AFK carry over from map to map

                      4. Map selection based on number of players. There are a few maps on Dredd only appropriate with large numbers of players and a few that are too cramped for small numbers of players (I figure this is very hard to do).

CAx is running outstanding with no problems that I have seen and all of the above are just nice things to eventually have, as opposed to things that are really needed.

I figure #3 should be very easy and would be nice to have that way if a player or 2 goes AFK, their presence doesn't interfere with FORCE/YES voting if the map changes.

Anyway, the great new features in CAx really make Dredd fun because you can passively have the server take you to new maps, instead of actively having to think about what map to vote.

Added: MVP based on Net Damage!

Every game, it anticlimatically says that the guy whose name is on the top of the scoreboard was the MVP. It might be more interesting if the MVP for both the rounds and the game were based on Damage Given - Damage Received.
