I myself don't IRC often, it is very rare except for some of those CA tournaments to figure out what server/team etc., but I do know that IRC is very useful for those wanting information or to get in a game.
I think the GameSurge.net #quake1 channel was a great thing for the player base, but the few times I have been on there have been similar to Monster's quote here:
An outsider would get a very negative impression @ the #quake1 channel from what I have seen there the few times I've been on there. Then again, I haven't been on there in months and have no firsthand experience on the channel in a long time.
I have not been on the #quakeone channel in a long time, but I do not remember seeing any of that or if so -- it was a lot less.
So the poll:
List #quakeone channel somewhere on homepage, list both #quakeone and #quake1 on homepage or list neither on homepage?
This isn't a question of whether or not to list an IRC channel but rather if the talk on either of the above IRC channels would reflect positively on Quake and the Quake community to an outsider or someone wanting to try Quake out.
Opinions of those that regularly use/visit these IRC channels to have a knowledgeable opinion is valued far more than non-users.
I myself almost never use IRC and therefore have no regular experience with either of these channels so I fall into the non-users category.
