  • Mtown and CA servers

    hey everyone.

First on the top of my list I've been thinking is there any way we can revive the mtown server?

I believe public CTF was one of the more successful ways of keeping people aboard quake.
It has a great map rotation, the hook was quick and fun as well as newbie friendly.

Personally aside from when i played 3wave, i played there almost daily. Public CTF was quite addictive

so is there anyone else out there who like me believes we should get mtown back up?

Aside from that, I think it would be really cool if r00k was able to build some sort of system to track kills/efficiency/stats per ip address on CA servers.
Many Public CS servers have websites where you can check where you are ranked in comparison to other players.
This type of stat system would create more incentive for people to play as they could talk smack but be able to back it up with their rankings and stats.

Also I was thinking about what Phenom said a while back to one of my posts and he is right, although CA is profoundly based on DM3 if the map rotation doesn't grow to what dredd has and begin having several great CA maps new people would see no reason to play quake1 because it would seem cheesy to play the same map over and over again.

There is a pub CTF with Rook's CTF at ctf.quakeone.com

Really, this should be listed in the front page server browser; I'll add it in there.

/Edit = now added to front page server browser.

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Pub CTF rocks! I used to play at mtown all the time back in the day.

As Baker said, we did start a pub ctf server. We used to do CTF Thursdays and encouraged everyone to play ctf. After awhile it turned into an uneven team fest. Peeps screwed around and messed up teams and games were no fun. It would be cool to try to start that up again.

      CTF THURSDAYS!!!!

i played mtown all the time too. and dsuper. when pub ctf died i had to switch to runequake. I like your suggestion of playing more pub ctf, but it is unlikely to go anywhere. There has been at least one reliable pub ctf server up for a long time, intertex, but no one ever goes there

Yes, indeed pub ctf was great! Between clan matches jumping on hating, anycomp, or Mtown kept the game alive and the players active. After mtown went down alot of peeps when to (hmm whats that server's name with the funny hook?), then it died and no more ctf! CTF.QUAKEONE.COM is running crctf 3.0 in PUB (classic) mode. There's no paks to download, just connect and your in the game. Map rotation (no idling on e4m3). Now its not as loose as MTOWN was, (x2 quad, flag dropping, x2 hook speed, powerup dropping etc.) but it has a ballanced classic CTF feel. Intertex suffers from an older box with "hickups" to many people not near Texas. Thursday is ok, I'd be more apt to play CTF Sundays!

Sunday's would work best for me as well.

Tal (Rampage), bringing MTOWN back is a great idea. A fucking incredible idea. The same mod though... not intertex. That's what made MTOWN fun, anyways, I'm down for Sunday games.
