    Me and Dest thought up an idea over at dredd that a mix between CAx and 3wave (ctf) would be kind of neat... Here's how I imagined it: you would pick teams and get the full loadout just like in CAx, but there should be self-damage but having the hook available. There should be no nuclear-bomb type splash damage radius... of course we will use the 3wave maps and of course we include the whole object of ctf--to capture the flag. Just throwing it out there, though I doubt this idea will go farther than stone's throw from this post, I would love to see this running on a server, maybe as an option on both Rage and Dredd (just add it in with the rest like Airshot, InstaGib, Practice, Match, and whatever else there is)

    I assume we could call this:
    C3WVx (Clan 3WaveX)
    CVx (Clan WaveX)
    CTFx (Capture The FlagX)
    and the command to change modes in the server could be CACTF I think will do nicely.

    sooooooo what you're saying is something like crctf but without respawns? And start out with all weapons?

        if everyone spawns PHAT, how could you hook with all that blubber??


        I understand what he means, it's REALLY an objective game; get the flag or aid the flag carrier...
        but the way this would work would inevitably be a stand still, imagine two teams playing tug of war, only u have 30 seconds to participate until u respawn at the end of the rope...
        a static weapon server is the only substitute. As u must spawn and grap weaps then participate in the main goal.

        This though is something about CTF i have always found attractive, the "weapon horde-ing" is second fiddle. I have probably captured a flag 100 times in 10 years with nothing more than a shotgun after a spawn simply because the other team is too busy with map/weapons management!

        Basically ctf has two objectives; run the weaps (dm principal), and run the flags. This is why CTF is DM with a goal. The only thing that put dm players OFF ctf was the hook "strategically", but in essence the hook = skill ie CTF.

          Does 3WCTF not have all those options (and loads more) as bit flags? CTFBot+ certainly does and it includes code in the download. It's an old skool bot with more in common with a tasty reaper mod than FrikBot but with some hacking and slashing it should give you some nice code to base the mod on.

            When I was talking to dest on rage about this, I said that the getting weapons always turned me away from CTF

            I don't like getting destroyed by people whoring the weapons, and I am always getting blown out of the sky because I have nothing and I get no chance to get weapons in the first place.

            This new mod idea would give me and a good number of others, probably, a chance to experience CTF without being eaten by the people who already have the weapons, and you need to wait for the weapons to respawn before you can go get them, and in that waiting period you get destroyed :/

                    How about making players spawn with the enemy flag?

                      Well for this to work then maybe there is a basic set of weapons, minimal short range, melee and longrange weapon. with ammo scattered around the map. Each weapon really doesnt do as much damage as say the RL for instance. Otherwise what would happen is people would just run around, run out of ammo, typ "kill" respawn in base and just camp the flag with a full arsenal. If it was for instance a CTF game with hook, axe shotgun and a nailgun then maybe this would make it less attack intensive and more flag oriented. But, then I think it would also make the game pretty boring. Death Match mode 2 for instance though, is "weapon stay" where as, when u take a weapon, u obtain one but its not remove nor respawns, it just stays there for someone else. And u cant retake weapons you already have. This diversion, having to run off the capture route to get weapons, actually creates a strategy and makes the game more dynamic.
