Instead of wasting time watching TV or other things that seem to have a low value, I like playing Quake and working on Quake stuff.

Sometimes something else becomes more interesting than Quake -- and I do that instead for a while, but after hanging out with many of the same people for a 3-4 years, I know where "home" is.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Okay, so were all addicted. But, why? What makes Quake so addicting? Is it the gameplay? The multiplayer? All the mods and single player maps? The new engines that give Quake a whole new look? The fact that people are still creating new things for Quake?

Just what keeps us from coming back to Quake after all these years?

To me, its the gameplay, all the single player maps, and of course the multiplayer.

                How about you?

Simplicity. You get 7 guns and an axe to kill people with and the game runs totally solid while taking up less than 500MB on a typical person's computer.

I think it's a mixture of excellent engine/game design, and a good dose of nostalgia. It's also fun to do something you're good at, and I guess most people who still play Quake are pretty good at it by now.

I voted no, anyway... I still play it regularly though, so maybe I'm in denial.
